As a public educator working with special needs kids, politics is not my world. But since it’s Mother’s Day, the kids and I thought a gift we could give Kimberly (aka Mom) is a well-deserved day off and take a swing at this campaign thing. Think you’d agree, all moms deserve to be pampered a bit today.
Over the past two years, we’ve watched her expand Emerge California and run for Chair of the largest state Democratic Party in the nation, yet all the while making sure dinner was made each night, groceries were bought, kids made it to school, laundry was done and after school pick up and drop off happened.
It hasn’t been easy to have her gone on the campaign trail, but we believe in what she is doing. For us, you are all seeing the superstar we know as the rock of our family. You’re learning that Kimberly’s word is her bond. That she rises to meet every challenge with grace, humility and courage.
We are so proud of her and know she will not let you down, just like she’s never let us down.
Sure, we’ve been bummed when she can’t make sports events or the nights she has to spend away when she’s traveling. As a family, we’ve made this sacrifice and shared this very special woman because we know she will take care of all of you and the California Democratic Party the same way she takes care of us – exceptionally well.
On behalf of our family, we’d like to wish a very special Mother’s Day to all the moms, single dads and those who are mothering in our communities; and a special shout out to those working moms who manage to accomplish more in an hour than most of us do in a day. You are all superstars.
Happy Mother’s Day!
With Democratic Love – James, Callie and Ellis

We need to focus on the students in the great state of California.I am running for the Vice Chair position for the Democratic Party in California so we can focus on helping future generations prosper and feel safe.
Lets bring art back into the schools. Many students can not afford to take dance and painting classes and there was a time when this was possible through the schools, but budgets cuts have made this nearly impossible. My daughter, Melissa, is a professional dance and teacher and has created Barre Athletics. A program where students learn about past idols in art and engage in a ballet type fitness class.
I hope to bring attention to this subject as it is very important that we allow our children to express their passions through art and feel they have a safe place to express their views.
Thank You for supporting me. I appreciate your support.
Please contact her at 310-482-1820. She is also forming an athletic caucus and wants more people involved.
Thanks Again!

I wanted to take a (short) break from the campaign trail to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms we have in the Democratic Party.
Mother’s Day has always been a special day for me, and somehow even more so since my mom passed away almost 11 years ago.
My husband Michael, my mom Gail, her partner Trish, who lives with us now, and a young Eric with a very 80’s mustache
My mother, Gail Bauman, was a very special woman to all who knew her.
A single mom who taught me how to tie a tie, pick a suit, throw a punch, and how to stand up for those less fortunate than we were.
A nurse who cared for her patients as if they were family.
A lesbian out of the closet in 1960’s New York who never accepted anything less than equal treatment.
And she was even a professional bowler — one of the few traits she didn’t pass down to me.
I’ll be thinking of her today, as those of you who’ve lost your mothers will, I’m sure.
The day I delivered her eulogy was one of the most difficult of my life, but I always remember Mother’s Day as a time that was hers and mine alone, spent happily having bagels and lox and a glass of champagne. I miss her, but my heart is filled with warm, loving memories that no one can ever take away from me.
If you’re fortunate to still have your mother, be sure to give her a big hug today and take the time to tell how important she is to you. You’ll be glad you did.
Democratically Yours,
Eric C. Bauman (“That trouble-making boy of Gail’s”)

As we all know, in campaign season, the accusations and attacks ramp up as we get closer to Election Day.
The newest whopper (John Burton would call it something more colorful, but you get the picture) being spread around is that I’m somehow not wholeheartedly supporting SB 562.
So let’s go ahead and tell some of those hard truths…
But let’s be real. An op-ed in election season isn’t enough.
HARD TRUTH: Both authors of SB 562, Senators Toni Atkins and Ricardo Lara, have endorsed my campaign for Chair because they know passing single-payer isn’t just an election season talking point for me. We need the experience, grit, and know-how to get this job done.
But let’s be real. The fight for single-payer didn’t start during this Chair’s race.
HARD TRUTH: I’ve been fighting to make universal single-payer healthcare available for DECADES. It’s the reason why I became politically engaged so many years ago, based on my experience as a registered nurse. I worked with then-Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi to pass universal healthcare which was then vetoed by Gov. Pete Wilson. I was in the foxhole with then-Senator Sheila Kuehl when Democrats passed single-payer TWICE, only to have Gov. Schwarzenegger veto it both times. And I was with then-Senator Mark Leno as he tried to make it happen, yet again.
But let’s be real. TALK IS CHEAP. Trust the single-payer fighters with the battle scars to prove it.
HARD TRUTH: Every single author of universal/single-payer healthcare legislation in our state’s history — John Garamendi, Sheila Kuehl, Mark Leno, Toni Atkins, and Ricardo Lara — are ALL supporting my campaign to lead our Party.
Let’s be real. They’re standing with me because I’ve stood with them over the years doing the real work to make single-payer a reality.
I hope you’ll join them because, with SB 562, single-payer is in reach. This is our chance to finish the job for all of those who’ve come so close in the past, and most importantly, for the millions of Californians who deserve affordable, high-quality healthcare.

Mike Thaller for CDP Controller! Why is Mike Thaller the only choice for CDP controller if the Party is to thrive under a new chair and set of officers?
I’ve been speaking to clubs, central committees, and regions. I have found that virtually all of us are concern about is the influence of dark money on the party and how it is like a cancer that is eating away at th prty and swinging it towards being just another step towards corporate rule.
All three of the candidates for chair talk about weaning the dark money from the party so that we can live up to the name “Democratic Party,” which literally means “The party of the regular people.”
If we are to succeed the new chair will need a controller who shares their drive and concern and will work with them instead of avoiding the topic. I’ve been talking about this as Chair of the Progressive Caucus. It is now time to put those words into action. If you agree, there is only one choice for Controller.
For the CDP to Thrive There is Only One Choice for Controller – Mike Thaller.
We are at a crossroads. The country is under the grip of the Trump-Republican Regime. As “The Party of the People” we have an obligation and an opportunity to thrive. What we need to do is be the party of the people. That is the core principle behind my run for Controller of the California Democratic Party.
Democrats and Progressives around the state and even those of us in the party are often frustrated by the difference between what we stand for and what and who we sometimes support. We need to start weaning out the dark, corporate money from the party so that our members and our donors and our voters will see our sincerity and vote and contribute.
As controller I am very concerned about the influence of corporate money on the CDP and the resulting lack of influence on the CDP by the delegates, Caucuses, Central Committees, regular donors, and voters when “dark” corporate money from the likes of “Big Oil” or “Big Pharma” or “Big Insurance” are involved.
Not all corporations are “dark.” We need to start replacing dark moneywith money from those that conform to the values of the people and support them so we can reduce control of the party by lobbyists that represent interests that are contrary to the best interests of the people.
We all agree that the party needs to be transparent in where we get and how we spend money.More importantly, we need to pay attention to that transparency and make it known through our committees and caucuses when we see that the party is supporting, candidates, bills, or propositions that are counter to our ideals.
I am never asked if I am actually qualified for the position. I was a controller in my professional life in the film and video production industry. I am the treasurer of two Federal PACs and one State PAC. As co-founder/spokesman for the CDP “Caucus of Caucuses” and as Chair of the Progressive Caucus I’m connected to the ideals and issues that matter to us – the members of the Party. WE are the Democratic Party!
We have a Choice! I am the only candidate for Controller that, with the new CDP Officers, will work towards weaning the Dark Money from our party and restoring us to being the Party of the People. Mike Thaller for Controller of the California Democratic Party
If you agree that the party needs to move back to the people and away from big corporations…

The Bernie Sanders campaign has inspired thousands of ordinary Californians to get involved in the Democratic Party to help re-shape it for the fights to come. As two young activists who “felt the Bern”, we want to let you know why we support Daraka Larimore-Hall for CDP Vice Chair.
Not only was Daraka the only statewide Party officer to endorse Sanders in the Primary, he understands the long-term importance of finding space for new activists and uniting the Party around the bold and progressive policy ideas Bernie ran on. Daraka understands that these ideas- tuition-free college, single payer health care, peaceful foreign policy and taking on economic inequality – are popular among California Democrats no matter who they supported in 2016. That’s the way we will unite.
As new activists try to get their heads around the bewildering array of Party structures and groups, Daraka has always been there to answer questions and invite our participation. This was clear from the first time Bernie delegates met with the rest of the Party before the Philadelphia DNC Convention and continues to this day.
I first met Daraka four years ago and watched him continuously push for a progressive agenda within the Democratic Party at different levels. At the same time, Daraka has worked to unite the party between Sanders and Clinton supporters before and after the heated Presidential primary. As a young Democratic activist, Daraka has been easily accessible to help build Democratic Clubs and County Central Committees. As Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party, Daraka will continue his work on strengthening the Party from the grassroots.
-AJ
I’m supporting Daraka for Vice Chair of the CDP because he is the only member of the previous leadership to make a legitimate effort to reach out to those of us who are new to working within the party. Daraka has made a consistent effort to offer advice and answer any questions I ever have. He has also put considerable effort into bridging the divide between the Sanders and Clinton sides of the party. I always look forward to and welcome his insight on how to handle disagreements I come upon both at the county and state level. I look forward to him bringing this inclusive style of leadership to the position of vice chair.
-Natalie
We need to find ways of working together and hearing all the voices in the Democratic base. Electing Daraka as Vice Chair makes us confident we will have a seat at the table.
Now is your chance to get involved in the Democratic Party and help prepare for our sustained efforts. I know we can count on your help by volunteering to support Daraka Larimore-Hall for California Democratic Party Vice Chair at the Sacramento Convention Center on May 19th & 20th.
