If there’s one state that leads this nation with both ideas and heart, it’s California.
It’s why I’ve been proud to be a public servant for the past two decades, getting the job done for our beloved state.
And it’s why today, in Boyle Heights, I launched a road trip and listening tour across the state to hear from everyday Californians.
Together, we’ve taken on big problems and found solutions. We’ve created incredible prosperity together. But bigger challenges still lie ahead, and I’m ready to lead our California down a path with more opportunity for everyone, including those who have been left behind.
As we roll across the state on this tour, the California road signs are a perfect reminder of where our state came from.
Shaped like the shovels that the forty-niners brought to California, they represent the mission they took on: Unearthing a better future for their families. They came from every corner of the earth to discover the California Dream, one that was built on the foundation of this unique experiment.
They leave behind a rich legacy across the state, including places like Boyle Heights — one of the few neighborhoods that did not enforce racially discriminatory covenant deed restrictions, resulting in a vibrant multi-ethnic community of immigrants that reflect the vibrant and rich diversity throughout California we know and care about today.
Boyle Heights has continued to build on that legacy. And under the visionary leadership of people like LA City Councilman Jose Huizar, places like Boyle Heights are thriving: Light rail transit has returned, restaurants have opened, a bustling farmers market is held here every week and the neighborhood is safer.
On this first day of this listening tour, I’m proud to share Councilman Huizar’s vision, hear his thoughts, and receive his endorsement. I’m hoping I can count on your support too.

With the Gubernatorial Primary officially one year away, today I am proud to launch Delaine’s Team 29.20.
Team 29.20 is our path to victory. We need just 292 people to join today to meet our first goal. Can you join right now?
The early support we have received has allowed us to make key investments and provided critical resources to travel the state far and wide to share our message. And I promise you, it is resonating everywhere we go. People want to see government working for them, not the powerful.
One thousand people donating $29.20 a month equals just one max donor. But history has shown us that a large group of small donors is more powerful than a small group of large donors. You bring your time, energy and commitment to doing the actual work required to win this election.
This is not going to be a campaign built on massive television ad buys. This is going to be a campaign powered by the people of California who love our state and are ready to see us address the inequalities that prevent too many from experiencing the California Dream.
If we have 29,200 Team 29.20 donors by June 2018, we will have the resources we need to compete from Siskiyou to Imperial Counties and everywhere in between.
California is an overwhelmingly Democratic state. We must support Democratic values and not allow millionaires and billionaires to buy our elections. It is time to return to government of, by and for the people.
p.s. Team 29.20 is a monthly commitment to donate $29.20 a month through the election. This is less than $1 a day. For those who cannot afford this monthly commitment, I hope you will consider starting at $2.92. Thank you.

I am honored that California State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones has endorsed mefor State Treasurer.
In announcing his support for my campaign, Dave Jones said: “As Treasurer, Fiona Ma will make sure California’s investments are sound and responsible and that Californians can share in our state’s prosperity.”
Speaking of endorsements, I am proud to be supported by the Mendocino Women’s Political Coalition, who said this about my candidacy: “You are a great role model for our women and girls. Your expertise as a CPA reassures us that California’s money is in good hands.”
In my speech to delegates at the California Democratic Party Convention, I talked about Party unity and the need to defend our core values — expanding healthcare, improving education, immigration reform, and protecting civil rights, LGBTQ rights, and choice.
I am so proud of my Ma Squad volunteers who always stand with me in the fight for fairness, accountability, and social justice. #MaSquad
I attended Memorial Day ceremonies at the Presidio in San Francisco. Each of the 30,000 headstones in the San Francisco National Cemetery represents a human being who lost his or her life. We honor them and lift up their continued legacy of service with purpose, dedication, and courage.
It was an honor to speak at the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce celebration in San Diego. May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, a celebration of the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
Since California became a state in the 1850s, only 10 women have been elected to statewide office. I started my public service career as an appointee to the SF Assessment Appeals Board, which prepared me to run for my first office. If you’re interested in getting appointed to a state board/commission, join California Women Lead or one of the many great organizations offering candidate and leadership trainings: Engage, Empower and Elect!
An important deadline is coming up! June 30 is the cutoff for candidates to report how much they have raised in 2017. Please help me meet my fundraising goal and contribute now!

Jacobson & Zilber Strategies CA’S SCIENTISTS GIVE HERNANDEZ THE NOD IN LT. GOV. RACE California Association of Professional Scientists Endorse Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor of California WEST COVINA, CA— Extending his base of statewide support in his campaign for Lieutenant Governor of California, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez added the California Association of Professional Scientists (CAPS), an organization that represents roughly 3,000 scientists, to his list of important backers.
CAPS represents nearly 3,000 highly educated, specially trained state-employed scientists working in over 30 state departments and 81 scientific classifications. CAPS members protect the public from life-threatening diseases, safeguard our wildlife and abundant natural resources, and protect our air and water from toxic waste and pollution.
In announcing their endorsement of Senator Hernandez’ campaign for Lt. Governor, CAPS’ President Patty Velaz, released the following statement:
“The California Association of Professional Scientists is pleased to strongly endorse State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor of California. Senator Hernandez has a deep understanding of the critical importance of science and its contributions to the common good of our state, and more broadly, to our collective society. Moreover, Senator Hernandez has proven himself as a leader who recognizes and values the essential work our state scientists do — protecting our food, water, air, public health and natural resources. He’s been there for our members time and again and we’re proud to stand with him in his campaign across California.”
Significantly, recently, Senator Hernandez released a new online video, titled “A California Story,” which can be viewed by clicking on the screen image below:

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities. As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.
Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.
