|If there’s one state that leads this nation with both ideas and heart, it’s California.
It’s why I’ve been proud to be a public servant for the past two decades, getting the job done for our beloved state.
And it’s why today, in Boyle Heights, I launched a road trip and listening tour across the state to hear from everyday Californians.
Together, we’ve taken on big problems and found solutions. We’ve created incredible prosperity together. But bigger challenges still lie ahead, and I’m ready to lead our California down a path with more opportunity for everyone, including those who have been left behind.
As we roll across the state on this tour, the California road signs are a perfect reminder of where our state came from.
Shaped like the shovels that the forty-niners brought to California, they represent the mission they took on: Unearthing a better future for their families. They came from every corner of the earth to discover the California Dream, one that was built on the foundation of this unique experiment.
They leave behind a rich legacy across the state, including places like Boyle Heights — one of the few neighborhoods that did not enforce racially discriminatory covenant deed restrictions, resulting in a vibrant multi-ethnic community of immigrants that reflect the vibrant and rich diversity throughout California we know and care about today.
Boyle Heights has continued to build on that legacy. And under the visionary leadership of people like LA City Councilman Jose Huizar, places like Boyle Heights are thriving: Light rail transit has returned, restaurants have opened, a bustling farmers market is held here every week and the neighborhood is safer.
On this first day of this listening tour, I’m proud to share Councilman Huizar’s vision, hear his thoughts, and receive his endorsement. I’m hoping I can count on your support too.
Thanks for your support,
