Derlet – McClintock : We could not be more different!

Dear Neighbor and Friend,

It should be clear by now that Tom McClintock and I are very different. Our life experiences–mine as a medical doctor and his as a lifelong politician–are different. I live in the 4th congressional district, but he doesn’t. Our views on climate change, rising health care costs, preservation and wise use of our natural resources, preserving social security and many other issues are vastly different. As I say, “Tom McClintock and I are like oil and water. I like clean drinking water and he likes the big oil companies!”

But nowhere and on no issue are the differences so great as on the matter of his candidate for President. Donald Trump’s life long track record of bullying, lewd and boorish behavior makes him unfit to be President.

I am appalled–as a man, as a husband, as a father, and as a professional colleague of many women health professionals–by what we’ve learned about Donald Trump’s attitudes toward women, and worse yet, his actions against women, the violation of their bodies and their dignity.

But Tom McClintock says he still “stands with” Trump as his candidate for President. Imagine that! He does not seem bothered, or troubled, or aghast, or offended. He is “standing” by–even strengthening his support for–Donald Trump’s attitude, language and acts. Imagine that, indeed!

And, it gets worse. Tom McClintock accused fellow Republicans (those who are troubled by what we’ve learned–and are learning anew every day–about Mr. Trump), of “wringing their hands,” in unnecessary worry, concern and conscience. He dismisses out of hand, with a put down, fellow Republicans who have voiced dismay, not excitement, over Trump’s behavior.

You bet that Tom McClintock and I are different. Really different, and that’s why I need your support, your energy, your idealism and your vote in this election. We need to show that we’re all different from Tom McClintock on the things that matter. Really matter.

Sincerely,
Bob

State Center Community College District Board of Trustees Area 6 Candidate, David Rowell, meets Kamala Harris on Monday, Oct 10 at the Daily Grill

KamalaHarris

Here’s the truth: Congress has refused to pass any legislation to fight climate change and global warming. Instead, Republican majorities in both chambers are working to undo the rules that keep our air clean and protect our future.

I’m running for Senate because we need a fighter in Washington who will stand up to climate change deniers like Donald Trump and work to pass national climate change legislation that promotes innovative solutions, like establishing a carbon tax or creating a cap-and-trade market for carbon pollution.

Now I want to talk about something specific that has been bugging me on this issue: there has not been a single question about climate change at any of the presidential or vice presidential debates we’ve had up to this point.

That is ridiculous. Climate change is one of the gravest threats facing our nation right now, and millions of Americans deserve to know how Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will address it.

Please sign our petition today demanding the moderator of the final presidential debate ensure a robust conversation is had about what our country should do to combat climate change.

I understand that one of the great strengths of my state is its dramatic beauty and environmental diversity — from the tall, mist-shrouded redwoods to vast desert vistas; from stunning sandy beaches to rushing rivers and the soaring Sierra Nevada mountains; from productive agricultural valleys to rolling, oak-studded hills.

And we can all recognize that climate change is a grave threat to what makes each of our communities special.

While California received some rain and snow last winter, we’re now in the fifth year of drought. Warm weather gave us what state officials are calling a “snow drought” – resulting in below-average runoff from the snowpack, often called California’s “largest reservoir.” We don’t know what next year will bring. Climate change is a clear threat to our water supply, public health, and our economy.

With so much happening related to climate change, the moderator of the final presidential debate has a responsibility to address it.

If you agree, please add your name to our petition today and help ensure the American people know where both candidates stand on climate change.

Thanks for everything you do.

– Kamala
