Tell the Warriors: Celebrate with us, not Trump

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

This week, the Golden State Warriors did California proud by winning the NBA championship. Now’s their chance to do us proud again.

California has one of the most diverse populations in the country, and the Warriors’ fans are some of the most diverse in the league.

When President Trump invites the Warriors to stand with him in photo ops at the White House, they should stay in California and celebrate with us instead.

I’m encouraging the Golden State Warriors to decline President Trump’s invite — and I want you to join me. Will you sign the petition?

Warriors players David West and Stephen Curry both spoke out after Trump’s election, standing with their fans.

And earlier this year, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr publicly denounced Trump’s Muslim ban and his divisive rhetoric, saying, “It’s about leadership, it’s about compassion and dignity and character and treating people the right way. That’s leadership. It’s terrifying we have someone in office who espouses none of that.”

Californians have long chosen a different road than national politicians who have worked to divide us, and recent statements about Trump by members of the Warriors family are part of that tradition. They embody the spirit that makes our state so welcoming and so prosperous.

But if Warriors don’t unanimously decide to skip the trip to the White House, Trump will co-opt their victory and use the visit as an endorsement of his divisive rhetoric and agenda.

Let’s make the Warriors’ win a time for celebration and joy — not political games. Let’s give them an invitation to celebrate with us instead of Trump.

Instead of standing with President Trump, the Golden State Warriors should celebrate with their homegrown fans here in California. If you agree, sign the petition now.

Thanks for making your voice heard,

John

With pride

Pride has always been political. And today’s Los Angeles pride parade, reorganized as #ResistMarch, was no different.

When you’re a part of a marginalized group, celebrating who you are is a radical act.

I marched in today’s #ResistMarch with the Stonewall Democrats to celebrate my LGBT friends and neighbors, because I know what it means to be seen as “other.” As the son of immigrants, I grew up walking past neighborhood graffiti intended to fill me with fear, to keep me in line, and to hold me back.

But I was able to move past hate and bigotry, and take pride in who I am, thanks in large part to those who came before me.

Lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and other Americans have fought for decades for their own rights, for simple recognition that they exist, and for the opportunity to live without fear. From the Stonewall riots, to the earliest pride parades, and through the fight for marriage equality and transgender rights, tremendous progress has been made.

As an elected official, I’ve tried to play my own role in that progress. I worked to ensure the families of LGBT California workers would receive benefits immediately after marriage equality became the law of the land. I demanded that pharmaceutical companies provide Californians access to affordable HIV medications, and they responded by making them available in states across the country. And I’ve pushed California’s pension funds to use their influence to make corporate boards more diverse, including sexual preference and gender identity in that definition.

Yet, there’s much more work to be done. And under our current president and vice-president, there’s a risk that decades of progress could be erased.

It’s critical that all Californians, whether lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, straight, or questioning defend the rights of our neighbors and the people that we love.

I’m ready, and I hope you are too. If you’re ready to stand up to President Trump and stand with me in this fight, let me know by adding your name.

In solidarity,

John

Greetings Democrats!

The Fowler Fights For You Campaign is first and foremost proud and grateful for all our supporters and those who made a different choice. I was proud of our campaign and the collegiality among Jenny Bach, Alex San Martin and myself. We have shared a cordial relationship throughout the campaign.

We appreciate the respect our campaign has been given to review the election ballots and process with all candidates invited to observe. This is a lot more complex than many might imagine. We have one more visit next week to review and plan to share our findings and recommendations that we hope will be strongly considered and adopted. Until the review is completed we are unable to share next steps.

We did take a brief break last week to support our Senator Kamala Harris with the attached photo and a call to Senator Burr’s office sharing the disgust for total disrespect of women Senators and especially ours. #RESPECT

Let’s stay focused on calls to legislators telling them it is unacceptable to repeal ACA or Dodd Frank.

All Best,

“Fowler Fights For You”

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities.  As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.

Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.

SAN DIEGO COHORT JOINS FORCES, BACKS LARA FOR INSURANCE COMMISSIONER
Assembly Members Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher, Todd Gloria, Past SD Dem Party Chair Jesse Durfee Join San Diego Senators Toni Atkins and Ben Hueso in Endorsing Lara’s Statewide Bid
LONG BEACH, CA — Kicking off the week with a big, momentum-building announcement, today State Senator Ricardo Lara’s campaign for California State Insurance Commissioner won endorsements from San Diego area State Assembly Members Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher and Todd Gloria, as well as past San Diego Democratic Party Chair and current Democratic National Committee Member, Jesse Durfee. The trio joins San Diego area State Senators Toni Atkins and Ben Hueso, who both previously announced their support of Lara’s statewide effort.

“Ricardo Lara is not only highly qualified to serve as Insurance Commissioner, but he’s the embodiment of what a warrior for consumers ought to be. From working to advance healthcare for all to protecting immigrants and vulnerable communities, Ricardo has always put people first. I’m very proud to announce my support of his campaign.”
— State Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher

“Bold. A Visionary. Forward-thinking. These are the words that describe my friend Ricardo Lara. Throughout his time in the legislature, Ricardo has played a key role in shaping many of California’s landmark policies, from equality measures to healthcare for all children to immigrant rights, environmental protections to livable wages and more. He’s the best choice to be California’s next Insurance Commissioner.”
— State Assembly Member Todd Gloria

“I’m endorsing Ricardo Lara for California Insurance Commissioner because we need his leadership and fearlessness across the state as an advocate, champion and force on behalf of consumers. I know Ricardo will be extraordinarily effective and will work tirelessly on behalf of the people, not the billionaire elitists or big corporations and pharmaceuticals.”
— San Diego Democratic Party Past Chair and Current Democratic National Committee Member, Jesse Durfee
Today’s announcement follows the release of the Senator’s new digital video ad, titled, “Embolden,” which takes aim at Donald Trump’s backwards agenda and the President’s comments saying that “California is out of control,” by illustrating the sharp contrast between the Oval Office’s agenda and that of Lara’s.
