On Saturday night, 63% of California Democratic Delegates voted not to re-endorse Diane Feinstein’s re-election.
The outcome of the endorsement vote is an astounding rejection of politics as usual, and it boosts our campaign’s momentum as we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with everyday Californians against a complacent status quo.
California Democrats are hungry for new leadership that will fight for California values from the front lines, not equivocate on the sidelines. We all deserve a leader who will take our climate action to Washington, and will fight each and every day to protect our human and civil rights, our immigrant families and Dreamers, champion universal healthcare and create good paying middle class jobs.
This weekend the California Democratic Party held its annual convention in San Diego, and Delaine crushed all expectations. Delaine was up against two Democratic Party insiders who had received the Party endorsement just four years ago. She hit a home run, getting 20% of the vote compared to Antonio Villaraigosa’s 9%. No candidate received the endorsement and the corporate money backed frontrunner received just 39%.
Delaine’s message of putting all Californians, and particularly our children, first again, is resonating with people of all ages. She has excited former Hillary and Bernie supporters to elect a woman with real convictions who is not for sale to the highest bidder.
CONGRESSMAN TED LIEU ENDORSES JEFF BLEICH FOR CALIFORNIA LT. GOVERNOR
This week, Congressman Ted Lieu announced his endorsement of Jeff Bleich for Lt. Governor of California. Rep. Lieu is a United States Air Force veteran and a strong advocate for our men and women in uniform. He is also one of only four computer science majors serving in Congress, and has been a leading voice in calling for more focus on cybersecurity issues. Rep. Lieu has also authored legislation to ban so-called “gay conversion therapy” programs, reform our criminal justice system, and combat climate change.
“I’m endorsing Jeff for Lt. Governor because he’s demonstrated that he has both the courage and the skill to take on the tough problems affecting Californians across the state,” said Congressman Lieu. “Our new economy has brought new vulnerabilities. From addressing cybersecurity concerns, to modernizing our state’s education system for a new, 21st century workforce, to addressing the anxiety so many Californians are experiencing, Jeff is prepared to take on the big issues that Californians face. I’m also proud to support a candidate with a long track record of standing up for those who haven’t had a voice, including minorities and immigrants. In today’s political climate, we need someone like Jeff Bleich leading California.”
Congressman Lieu joins Congressmembers Jackie Speier, Adam Schiff and Ro Khanna in endorsing Jeff, a lifelong Democrat, a highly respected attorney, educator, diplomat, and a former senior counsel for President Obama. He has nearly thirty years of experience uniting people to resolve complex issues. Jeff has led some of the nation’s largest educational and legal advocacy institutions, and served the U.S. and California at the highest levels.
“I am deeply honored to have the support of Congressman Ted Lieu,” said Bleich. “His instinct has always been to serve others, and to fight injustice. As Assistant Whip in the House, he’s been extraordinarily effective in crafting new laws, stopping bad acts, and holding people to account on social media.”
Jeff has been a tireless advocate for Californians who have been discriminated against, communities that have been wronged, and families fighting to break into the middle class. He served as Chair of the California State University Board of Trustees as well as the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and other non-profit groups. He currently heads the Fulbright Scholarship Board, which creates scholarship opportunities for students.
After graduating in the top of his class at UC Berkeley Law School in 1989 and clerking for the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Jeff helped build Munger, Tolles, and Olson, LLP—one the most successful and revered law firms in California. He was elected by his peers to serve as president of both the San Francisco Bar and the California Bar Association, and has consistently been ranked as one the state’s top lawyers. Jeff has also received numerous awards and recognition for his civil rights and pro bono legal work on behalf of children, victims of violence, and California’s most vulnerable communities.
Jeff most recently served our nation as a top aide to President Obama, first as Special Counsel to the President in the White House, and then as the U.S. Ambassador to Australia. He continues serving Californians as a public policy and cybersecurity attorney at Dentons, and he is helping to grow our economy and create jobs throughout the state as an adviser to Governor Jerry Brown, and a nationally recognized advocate for education.
Jeff and his wife, Becky continue to work and live in the East Bay after raising their three adult children, Jake, Matt, and Abby.

ED HERNANDEZ NOTCHES ANOTHER WIN, SECURES CRITICAL BACKING FROM LABOR POWERHOUSE
State Senator Ed Hernandez Lands Endorsement of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA –Continuing to draw widespread support from powerful organizations that represent working people, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez scored an endorsement from the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor.
In announcing their endorsement, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) 1428 President and States Council Board Member Mark Ramos released the following statement:
“The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council is proud to endorse Senator Ed Hernandez for California Lieutenant Governor. He’s been a steadfast warrior for working families, backing California’s tough workers’ rights laws, healthcare for all efforts, protections for collective bargaining, a $15 statewide minimum wage, lower prescription drug prices, more investments in job-training as well as retirement benefits for working people. We know Ed will be a champion for working families as our next Lieutenant Governor and that’s why he has our full and enthusiastic support.”
Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.

Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.
A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities. As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.
Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.
