This morning, President Barack Obama announced that he’s endorsing our campaign in California’s 21st district!
Back in 2008, inspired by a challenge to “Be the change you want to see in your own community,” I started Volunteers for Change, Fresno, CA to help get Obama elected during his first run. The exhilaration we all felt on election night 2008 is something I’ll never forget.
I never imagined that one day it’d come full circle with the President getting behind the movement we’re building here in the Central Valley. I’m beyond humbled to have this endorsement. It’s not only a testament to your commitment to our shared values, but it highlights how massive the stakes are in 2018.

President Barack Obama has endorsed our campaign for California Lt. Governor!
Serving as U.S. Ambassador in the Obama Administration for nearly four years was the greatest honor and privilege of my life, and I couldn’t be more humbled and grateful to have his support.
I so strongly believe our future depends on strengthening our Democracy and ensuring California can be America’s beacon for inclusion, equality and progress.
With 33% of voters still undecided, we have a lot of work to do to make sure Californians across the state hear about our campaign. Anything you can give to our campaign today will help us get the word out.
Last week, I endorsed TJ Cox — and it was an easy decision. For years TJ has been a community development leader in the Central Valley, and has personally built and improved health clinics and job development programs that have delivered healthcare, education, and career opportunities to tens of thousands in his community.
TJ’s actions speak volumes about his commitment to the Central Valley. It’s time we had a representative here who is passionate about people, and has a proven track record of improving lives.
There’s more. TJ Cox is running a true grassroots campaign — meaning he isn’t taking any corporate PAC money and isn’t beholden to mega-donors or special interests.

Today, David Binder Research released its findings from a July poll showing our campaign up 16 points in an initial head-to-head vote against Ed Hernandez.
With 97 days to go until the November General Election, and with at least 33 percent of voters still undecided, we know we have to keep working hard all the way to Election Day. But here’s what we know: voters strongly support Eleni’s vision for California’s future and her proposals to fight for affordable education, environmental protection, and an economy that works better for all Californians.
The Poll Memo states: Kounalakis has wide leads among Democrats (44% to 26%) and Independents (45% to 22%), and a 3-point lead among Republicans.
She also leads across age groups: by 20 points among Generation X voters and Baby Boomers, 10 points among Millennials, and 5 points among Silent Generation voters.
Across regions of the state, Kounalakis leads by 27 points in the San Francisco Bay Area, 20 in the Sacramento/Valley region, and 12 in Southern California—including a 12-point lead in Los Angeles County.

From here on out, every conversation we have, door we knock, and fundraising goal we meet, will make all the difference if we’re going to flip this district.
