The Democratic Party is accountable to you

Democrats/Join us.

The Democratic Party recently sent out our official 2019 DNC Priorities Survey — and thousands of committed Democrats stepped up to respond. By making your voices heard, this incredible team of grassroots supporters helped strengthen our party and prepare our organization to take on Trump and Republicans in 2020.

I personally reviewed the results of these surveys, and it was inspiring to read about the goals that Democrats are most passionate about achieving in the months and years ahead. Here are a few highlights of what committed supporters like you had to say about their hopes for the future of our party:

  • Grassroots Democrats are proud of the historic victories we won together in 2018, and are ready to continue that momentum in the years ahead. Not only did our party flip the House and win seats nationwide — we also elected a historically diverse slate of candidates. Democratic candidates for governor, Senate, House, and state legislatures broke down barriers everywhere, and that success was made possible by supporters like you.
  • Democrats want the issues of health care for all, defending the environment, and leveling the economic playing field to stay front and center. In 2018, Democrats ran and won on these core principles, and as the 2020 cycle begins, the DNC will continue to amplify that message of dignity and respect for all.
  • The most important priority for the years ahead is winning back the White House in 2020. The DNC is laser-focused on continuing to build the party infrastructure necessary to unseat Donald Trump by electing a Democrat to the Oval Office. By making early investments in community organizing, cutting-edge technology for state parties, and critical voter protection efforts, the DNC is working around the clock to provide the strongest possible support to our eventual Democratic nominee.

If anything was made clear by the responses to this year’s survey, it’s that when grassroots Democrats make their voices heard and seize ownership of our party, the Democratic Party is stronger for it. Your support is what made victory possible in 2018, and I’m excited to see what the powerful movement we’ve built together will accomplish in the months and years ahead.

Thank you for being a part of this team,

Marking Dr. King’s legacy

CDP logo
Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Jr. day, and here at the California Democratic Party we will be spending the day honoring his bold legacy and recommitting ourselves towards the fight for social justice.

Throughout his life, Dr. King fought fiercely for civil rights for Black Americans, as well as economic justice for working people across the nation. The victories he achieved laid the foundation for our work to strengthen civil rights protections and opportunity for working Californians today.

I encourage you to join us in marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day by seeking out an opportunity for service, action, or reflection in an area near you.

Our team has compiled a list of opportunities to mark the day. Click here to view it and find an opportunity in your area.

To carry forward the legacy of Dr. King, at the Party we are committed to electing Democrats who will advocate and work towards civil rights and economic justice for all.

Similarly, while there is still work to be done, we are proud of our efforts to have our leadership in the party and statewide reflect the diversity that makes California great — and we will continue working hard to ensure parity.

In the spirit of the holiday, we hope you’ll join us in reflecting on or taking action to carry forward Dr. King’s legacy. Click here to view the list of opportunities our team has compiled.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker, Acting Chair

Show Democrats you’re with them

Democrats are working relentlessly to reopen the government, while Donald Trump plays political games with the lives of federal workers.

Democrats/Join us.

While Donald Trump continues to keep the government closed over his ridiculous border wall, Democrats have been hard at work fighting his dangerous administration and supporting American families.

This week alone, Congressional Democrats voted on a bill that would prevent Trump from relaxing sanctions on one of Vladimir Putin’s cronies, House Democrats voted to reopen several integral federal agencies, and Speaker Pelosi warned Trump to postpone his State of the Union address due to security risks caused by his reckless government shutdown.

Right now, Democrats are holding stronger than ever to make sure Trump’s border wall doesn’t come to fruition, so there couldn’t be a better time to show you have their backs.

Democrats are working relentlessly to reopen the government, while Donald Trump has been holed up in the White House feeding fast food to football players. The fact of the matter is: Trump would rather hold the government — and 800,000 American workers’ paychecks — hostage than drop this latest political stunt.

We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and allow Donald Trump and his administration to continually embarrass our nation and deface our democracy. Congressional Democrats are taking a stand against the border wall, and they need to know that you are standing alongside them. So I’m asking:

Thanks for being a part of this fight, Michael.

Are You Ready For The Women’s March?

Dear Democrats:

Tomorrow, people all over the country will join rallies and events for the 2019 Women’s March. We’re excited to see people celebrate hard-earned victories from the past year — from the way that women showed up in historic numbers at the polls to the fact that we elected a record-breaking number of women to Congress. Here in California, our legislature is now nearly 30% made up of women.

There were monumental steps made towards equality last year, and that empowering truth is worth celebrating. But the Women’s March is also an opportunity to recognize the fights that lay ahead. While we made great progress last year and held off many aspects of the radical, anti-woman GOP agenda, we have much more work to do.

We must show up for one another. We must fight diligently to protect our reproductive rights. We must demand that when we say #MeToo, our voices are respected and taken seriously — and that our abusers don’t get to walk away without facing consequences. We must stand up for migrant women, for trans women, for black women, for disabled women. When we show up for women, we must show up for all women.

The Women’s March is an opportunity to protest and to celebrate. It is a national movement to heal and to take power back, and to fight for a better future. California is leading that charge — so we encourage you to attend an event near you tomorrow.

Where’s Mitch?

Mitch McConnell is hurting Californians by cosigning Trump’s reckless shutdown.

Where’s Mitch?

Yesterday, members of the freshman class of Congress — including Rep. Katie Hill from our California delegation — asked that question as they hunted for Mitch McConnell all across the Capitol.

Where's Mitch?

They went looking for Mitch to demand he hold a vote in the Senate to end Trump’s increasingly harmful shutdown and reopen the government — legislation the House has already passed.

Spoiler alert: They couldn’t find him anywhere, and while he continues to hide from the American people, he is harming working Californians by cosigning Trump’s reckless shutdown. So, we thought we’d ask you:

Where do you think Mitch McConnell’s hiding? Let us know your guess here — and add your name to join us in demanding Mitch McConnell and Trump end this shutdown immediately.

Thanks,

A historic day for California

Sign our card to congratulate Governor Newsom and our Democratic statewide office holders.

Yesterday was a historic day for California!

Gavin Newsom was sworn in as governor, alongside the seven additional Democrats who won every single statewide office last fall.

That huge victory is thanks to you, and Governor Newsom is already hard at work fighting for our progressive values — including taking action to lower prescription drug prices and working to move our state closer towards healthcare for all.

Will you sign our card today to congratulate Governor Newsom and the rest of our Democratic statewide office holders — and urge them to keep up the fight for our progressive values?

Our Statewide Officials

Governor Newsom will be fighting for our values alongside one of the most diverse sets of statewide office holders in history. Three women — Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Treasurer Fiona Ma, Controller Betty Yee — hold statewide office together for the first time in history, two of them Asian-American.

They’ll be fighting alongside Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, and Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, four Latino Californians who are similarly making history by serving together. Thurmond is the first Afro-Latino to hold the position of California’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction. And Ricardo Lara made history twice over yesterday, as the first openly LGBTQ Californian to be elected to statewide office!

We are so proud to have this inspiring and diverse group of elected officials working for us and our values.

Click here to sign our e-card congratulating them and urging them to keep up the fight!

Onward!
