It’s RBG’s birthday — how we’re celebrating:

CDP logo
Today, the California Democratic Party is celebrating the birthday of one of our heroes: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has spent her career fiercely advocating for justice and equality for all Americans, and in her honor, today we’d like to share with you an important bill that Speaker Pelosi just introduced: the Equality Act.

The Equality Act would finally provide federal nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans, banning discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, education, and more, on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

It’s an important — and long overdue — bill, and it’s important that our legislators hear just how much we support it. So in honor of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s birthday, will you add your name today to our petition in support of the Equality Act?

The GOP’s relentless assaults on women’s rights (a round-up)

How the GOP have been the absolute worst when it comes to women’s rights and gender equality:

CDP logo

There are so many reasons why Trump and his Republican Party are the worst, it’s tricky to fit them all in one email.

So this week, in “honor” of Women’s History Month, we’re bringing you a special edition of our “Worst of the Week” round-up — focused solely on how the GOP have been the absolute worst lately when it comes to women’s rights and gender equality.

Let’s start with the Violence Against Women Act. Trump and the GOP let this crucial legislation expire last month — which means domestic violence survivors across the nation are still without federal protections.

(Before we continue, I’ve got to ask: Can you chip in $20.20 or more right now to help us fight back against the GOP’s relentless assaults on women’s rights? Thanks!)

On top of letting the VAWA expire, Trump’s administration also just finalized a domestic gag rule that would deny federal funds to any organization that refers or provides abortion related care. It’s an unconscionable attack on women’s rights that will cost lives — and we are proud that California’s Attorney General has already joined with other states to challenge it in court.

And we can’t forget the brave transgender women and men serving our country who may have their livelihood stripped from them thanks to Trump’s hateful and illogical transgender military ban — or the immigrant mothers who continue to be cruelly separated from their children by Trump’s administration.

I know that these developments are disheartening. And I know there are countless more women affected by the Trump administration’s seemingly endless attacks on our rights.

But here’s another thing we know: Our success in 2018 proves that when women (and men) come together, we win.

So, let’s channel our anger towards winning in 2020 and taking our government back from the GOP attacking women and our rights. Chip in $20.20 right now to be a part of it.

Democratically Yours,

Jenny Bach

This is a long email, but what’s inside is important

The DNC is the only official party organization tasked with helping elect our eventual nominee to the White House.

Democrats/Join us.

I wanted to take a moment to report back on the DNC’s progress and the objectives of our One-Term President Fund.

Last month, we launched the first-ever One-Term President Fund, a fund specifically devoted to taking on Donald Trump and the GOP in 2020 by electing a Democrat to the Oval Office and electing Democrats up and down the ballot. So far, over 42,000 supporters have stepped up to make a contribution and over 12,000 have taken the One-Term President Fund survey to share their priorities for this election cycle — that’s pretty incredible.

What’s even more incredible is what this committed grassroots team is already making possible through your support for the One-Term President Fund. Together, this devoted group of Democrats has chipped in bit by bit, to emails just like this one, to fund some of our most ambitious and groundbreaking projects yet. These funds are already being put to work to support the infrastructure our eventual nominee will need to win, so I hope you’ll give me a minute to share more about the work the DNC is doing to defeat Donald Trump and Republicans in 2020.

ORGANIZING CORPS 2020

We know the key to defeating Donald Trump in 2020 will be to organize early and put the best team in place to win. That’s why we’re excited to invest in training the next generation of young community organizers to work on the 2020 election cycle through an unprecedented new program, Organizing Corps 2020. The DNC has never invested in organizing for the general election this early in a presidential cycle, and through Organizing Corps 2020, the national Democratic Party will be recruiting and training homegrown organizers in key battleground states including Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. Our Democratic nominee will rely on this program to build a world-class field team to organize and win in 2020, so this program couldn’t be more crucial to the future of the Democratic Party.

2020 DATA INVESTMENTS

One of the DNC’s top priorities for this cycle has been to overhaul the party’s tech and data infrastructure to ensure that Democratic campaigns can employ smart strategies nationwide. Since 2017, our party has invested heavily in cybersecurity, brought in top tech talent, and we’re rebuilding our data infrastructure to give our presidential candidates completely revamped and state-of-the-art tools. Last month, we took a major step forward in this effort when the DNC and state parties announced a landmark agreement to improve access to voter data. This data agreement unifies our efforts across the progressive ecosystem and puts our candidates in the best position possible to win.

MOBILIZING CORE CONSTITUENCY GROUPS

The DNC is committed to sustaining the momentum we gained last cycle, which is why we are continuing crucial programs that helped propel Democrats nationwide to success in 2017 and 2018. From A Seat at the Table, an initiative to meaningfully engage and organize with Black women; to Mujeres Mobilized, a program to engage, empower, and organize alongside Latinas; to New Blue Crew, which aims to mobilize young voters and student leaders; the Democratic Party is working harder than ever to lift up our core constituency groups and empower them as key decision makers within our party.

Thank you for taking some time out of your busy day to hear more about what the Democratic Party is doing to win the White House and seats up and down the ballot in the months and years ahead. The DNC is the only official party organization tasked with helping elect our eventual nominee to the White House, so your support today will make a tremendous difference in the outcome of the 2020 election cycle.

Thanks again for taking the time to read about what the DNC is doing to win in 2019, 2020, and the years ahead. I couldn’t be more grateful to have you on this team.

Yours in the fight,

Seema

The 2020 Convention

The 2020 Convention is where we’ll officially nominate our candidate for president, and it’ll serve as the launchpad for our eventual nominee’s fight to defeat Trump.

Democrats/Join us.

The DNC just announced some exciting 2020 news today, and I wanted to be sure you heard it:

The 2020 Democratic National Convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin!

Milwaukee has a dynamic story to tell — this choice elevates the importance of the heartland and a diverse community working together. After a decade of Republican attacks on working people, labor unions, and communities of color, Democrats saw some of our biggest and most historic gains last year in Wisconsin with the election of Governor Tony Evers and Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes. The city of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin, under new leadership, represent a stronger and more successful Democratic Party.

Selecting a convention city is an important step in our road to 2020, and let me tell you, I couldn’t be more excited. The Democratic National Convention is where our party will officially nominate our candidate for president of the United States, and it’ll serve as the launchpad for our eventual nominee’s fight to defeat Donald Trump and win the White House in 2020.

The DNC launched our One-Term President Fund last month because the stakes in this race for the White House have never been higher. Trump’s campaign has already raised over $130,000,000 — a staggering and unprecedented amount for a sitting president. They’ve been spending aggressively on digital and TV ads to grow and energize their base. It’s clear that the Trump campaign is taking this race seriously, which is why Democrats don’t have an ounce of time to spare.

Our party’s nominee will inherit the organizing infrastructure, technology, and resources of the DNC, so support from committed Democrats like you will have a direct impact on our nominee’s chances of winning in 2020.

The Democratic Party is the only official party organization tasked with winning the White House in 2020 and seats nationwide, which is why your support for our party today is mission-critical. Waiting until the general election begins to kick our efforts into high gear will be too late, so there’s never been a more important time to support the Democratic Party with a contribution.

Let’s do this!

Tom

P.S. I’m excited to announce that the 2020 Democratic National Convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our party has so much work to do in order to prepare to take back the White House, restore the guard rails of our democracy, and make government work for American families.

I hope you’ll read about the first bill our Democratic majority introduced to expand voting rights

I want to take a second to tell you about H.R., one of the most important bills.

Democrats/Join us.

I was a civil rights lawyer for two decades, which is why I want to take a second to tell you about H.R. 1 — one of Democrats’ most important bills out.

H.R. 1 would make it easier to vote, reduce big money in politics, bring an end to partisan gerrymandering, and fight political corruption. Democrats are calling for the bill to be brought to the U.S. Senate floor, and Republicans couldn’t be more angry about it. Republicans are terrified of this bill because they know it attacks the pernicious tactics they’ve used to stay in power for decades.

Democrats know that our democracy works best when every eligible citizen participates, and this bill is our promise to the American people that your vote will be counted and your voice will be heard. Mitch McConnell and the Republican Party are fighting tooth and nail to kill this bill, so there’s never been a more urgent time to stand with the Democrats fighting for it.

Will you add your name and stand with the Democrats in the House of Representatives and across the nation who are working to protect our democracy?

I’M IN

For decades, Republicans have been muddying the water when it comes to our elections. Their willingness to buy elections through big-monied interests, gerrymander districts with surgical precision, purge voters, push heinous voter ID laws, and even cheat to win, is reprehensible.

Just last year, then Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp employed voter suppression tactics that disproportionately affected people of color and led him to victory against Democratic candidate for governor, Stacey Abrams. More recently, a new election was announced in North Carolina’s 9th congressional district, after evidence surmounted of an absentee ballot scheme that was put into place by a consultant Republican candidate Mark Harris hired.

We can’t continue to allow our democracy to fall under attack because Republicans refuse to let go of whatever political power they have, which is exactly why House Democrats have introduced H.R. 1.

The nitty-gritty of this bill could truly transform how our politics function, so I want you to read a few key reforms:

  • Every eligible citizen would be able to register to vote online or be automatically registered upon receiving a driver’s license.
  • It would be harder to remove folks from voter rolls, like we saw in Georgia and Ohio last year.
  • States would use paper ballots in federal elections to prevent tampering.
  • Independent commissions would be put into place to draw congressional district maps and prevent partisan gerrymandering.
  • Campaigns would have to disclose any big donors behind 501(c)(4) organizations.
  • All presidents and vice presidents would be required to release their tax returns.
  • House members would be prohibited from serving on corporate boards.
  • Foreign lobbyists and special interests would have a harder time influencing our laws.

Elections have consequences, and H.R. 1 is proof of that. This bill is the first piece of legislation that our new Democratic majority introduced because we know that folks feel like they’ve been locked out of their own democracy — and that must come to an end.

I hope you’ll add your name today to stand with Democrats nationwide who are fighting for every American’s vote to count.

Thanks for all you do, Michael.

Today is International Women’s Day

One of the biggest barriers to gender equality is leading the Republican Party.

CDP logo

Today is International Women’s Day — a day to celebrate how far we’ve come in the fight for full gender equality, as well as recommit ourselves to removing the barriers to equality and opportunity that women still face in our society.

This year, one of the biggest barriers is the Republican party and Donald Trump. As an example of Trump’s attack on women’s rights, he let funding for the Violence Against Women Act expire — stripping federal protections for domestic violence survivors across the nation.

Just yesterday, Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats introduced a bipartisan bill to reauthorize funding for the Violence Against Women Act. On this International Women’s Day, will you join them and our Party in urging the House and the Senate to pass this crucial legislation to protect survivors of domestic violence?

Reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act is crucial if we’re going to protect survivors of domestic abuse here in California and across the nation. As Nancy Pelosi said during yesterday’s press conference, “Every woman everywhere has a right to live free from abuse.”

In particular, the legislation would strengthen legal protections for Native American, immigrant, and LGBTQ women. Additionally, the bill would make it more difficult for those convicted of crimes related to domestic violence to obtain firearms.

But to pass this crucial piece of legislation, we need to put pressure on Republicans in the House and Senate. Please make your voice heard!

Thank you for your continued advocacy.

In Unity,

Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker, Acting Chair
