One of the biggest barriers to gender equality is leading the Republican Party.

Today is International Women’s Day — a day to celebrate how far we’ve come in the fight for full gender equality, as well as recommit ourselves to removing the barriers to equality and opportunity that women still face in our society.

This year, one of the biggest barriers is the Republican party and Donald Trump. As an example of Trump’s attack on women’s rights, he let funding for the Violence Against Women Act expire — stripping federal protections for domestic violence survivors across the nation.

Just yesterday, Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats introduced a bipartisan bill to reauthorize funding for the Violence Against Women Act. On this International Women’s Day, will you join them and our Party in urging the House and the Senate to pass this crucial legislation to protect survivors of domestic violence?

Reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act is crucial if we’re going to protect survivors of domestic abuse here in California and across the nation. As Nancy Pelosi said during yesterday’s press conference, “Every woman everywhere has a right to live free from abuse.”

In particular, the legislation would strengthen legal protections for Native American, immigrant, and LGBTQ women. Additionally, the bill would make it more difficult for those convicted of crimes related to domestic violence to obtain firearms.

But to pass this crucial piece of legislation, we need to put pressure on Republicans in the House and Senate. Please make your voice heard!

Thank you for your continued advocacy.
