FRESNO—What America needs in a president is experience, competency and strength. Over Hillary Clinton’s lifelong career of public service, she has proven that she possesses those qualities.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, has proven time and time again that he is weak. He envies dictatorial strongmen, praising people like Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong-un for their strangleholds on their domestic politics or brutal suppression of any threats to their power.
Trump has no experience in executive leadership, political coalition building or the details of government policy work and shows no inclination of a desire to learn. Instead, he praises himself as a “genius” and lashes out like an angry child at any insult against him. As a private individual, that kind of ignorance and weak willed action is sad, but in a president it is dangerous.
“The stakes in this election are simply too important to risk turning our country over to an unstable individual with a history of lying, corruption and doing business with suspect actors,” says Michael D. Evans, chair of the Fresno County Democratic Party.
America is a young nation, created whole cloth out of the scraps of a hundred countries. The unity we have made out of those parts is one of our strengths. Clinton has worked to expand inclusion in our communities and our economy, and as Secretary of State she helped knit the world together with us. She successfully negotiated a nuclear arms reduction treaty, built a coalition to sanction Iran and then led the team that got the Iranians to agree to abandon their nuclear weapons program.
With Trump, there is considerable risk from his foreign business entanglements. The Sept. 14 edition of Newsweek presented a frightening scenario: “Never before has an American candidate for president had so many financial ties with American allies and enemies, and never before has a business posed such a threat to the United States. If Donald Trump wins this election and his company is not immediately shut down or forever severed from the Trump family, the foreign policy of the United States of America could well be for sale.”
“Sitting on the sidelines is not an option in this election,” Evans said. “Vote for sanity, competence and a better future for our country. Hillary Clinton can deliver.”
The Fresno County Democratic Party is united behind Hillary Clinton for President. The official Coordinated Campaign headquarters is at 1035 U Street in downtown Fresno. To volunteer or for more information, contact 559-495-0606 or fresnocountydemocrats@yahoo.com.
We have just completed traveling to all 10 California Counties in U.S. Congressional District #4. Over the past 2 weeks, I have talked with voters from all corners of the district and discussed their thoughts, issues, and concerns. I love the wonderful people who live in this beautiful and diverse district!
We combined walking, cycling, hiking and driving over 500 miles encompassing Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Yosemite, and as far south as Fresno County, plus many towns and cities in between. We heard the concerns of our rural residents and those living in our cities and appreciate everyone who shared their stories with us. I want to thank all of you who joined us and cheered us on.
The great challenge for our good people is to compete against the big corporations and special interests that fund my opponent Tom McClintock.
As the election nears, it becomes more urgent to get the facts out on issues impacting residents who live in this vast district. It takes money to let everyone know how I plan to represent you and what I stand for.
Election day is only 48 days away. Early voting begins on October 10. We need your donations to continue to get the word out that there is a real choice in this important election. Please consider making a donation today.
Together we can send an unmistakable message about the power of our grassroots campaign. We are exceedingly grateful for all you’ve done so far, and I look forward to responding to your needs and working with you to get Congress back on track.
Thank you,
Bob

Congressional Debate:
Dr. Bob Derlet vs. Tom McClintock
October 4 – 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Yes. This is an early morning event so plan to enjoy breakfast after this event!
As we move from summer into fall, millions of our students are packing their bags and heading off to a college campus. As the “baby boomer” generation will tell you, attending college in the 1960s and 1970s in California was affordable. Tuition (fees) was less than $1,000 a year- adjusted to 2016 dollars.
Today, the cost of a college education has grown beyond reason. At the University of California, in-state tuition is over $15,000/year. Living costs, books and other expenses add another $15,000. That is $30,000 a year!
As a result, many students graduate with a huge debt of $50,000-to-$100,000! I think it is wrong to have our young people saddled with crushing debt before they even start their careers.
We can do much better. I can tell you from working at a University for years, that most schools can operate more efficiently and decrease cost per educational unit. And the Federal government can, and must, do more, by closing a few Wall Street tax loopholes. Why send money off to tax shelters in Panama or the Cayman Islands when that money could be used to help educate the future backbone of America?
We also need to invest in our Community College system. Community college degrees are a bargain, and technical degrees open many doors to outstanding careers with good opportunities and good pay. This is win-win! The tuition at some community colleges is only $1,500 a year and with Federal financial support we can keep this bargain in place.
I believe our government has a role in helping our young people achieve their educational goals. It is good for their futures and it is good for the future of our nation.
My opponent, Rep. Tom McClintock, blames government for the college problem. I wholeheartedly disagree. Blaming government — and saying NO — will not solve the problem. Our representatives in Washington should be working to solve our problems. Our students need solutions NOW. As your representative, I pledge to work hard to solve these problems.
I ask for your support for my campaign and for your Vote on November 8.
Thanks,
Bob
