We can talk all we want, and tweet all we want — but I lead by example.
Republicans in the Senate promised better options for healthcare, but then almost unanimously voted to proceed with a plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act and take care away from millions this week.
I went to Bakersfield and talked directly with folks who will suffer if the Republicans succeed. And with Governor Brown, I’m working to offer the real solutions that Californians need.
But if we don’t stop the Senate from voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act, our work will become much more challenging. That’s why we need to build pressure now.
One in seven Californians receives care from community clinics — four of which have already closed since President Trump took office.
The repeal of the ACA would make the situation worse:
· Federally Qualified Health Centers around California would see a $3.8 billion economic reduction, raising costs for everyone.
· 27,000 Californians would lose their jobs in health centers alone.
· An estimated 2.4 million Californians could lose coverage.
This type of ill-conceived policy will hurt people all over California and destroy our budget. It is fiscally irresponsible and morally corrupt. Real leaders create common sense policy that ensures greater access and keeps premiums low.
I’ve worked with Governor Brown to create a proposal that will help offset losses for clinics around the state and help keep costs low if this bill manages to pass through congress. By doing so, we can ensure that Californians will be able to obtain affordable health care and clinics around the state will not have to close their doors.
But solving this crisis in the long-term means keeping the pressure on Congress now, before they make the situation even worse.

The Lt. Governor serves every single person and every community in California, and that means understanding our challenges in a personal way. Over the past three weeks, I’ve been on a journey all across this state, and talking candidly with people who are fighting through some of the toughest problems that face California. It’s made me wiser, more optimistic, and inspired a few new things I’ll be doing.
Whether they were students at Cal State San Bernardino, firefighters in Los Angeles, education leaders in Fresno, small business owners in Mendocino, tech workers, union members, environmentalists, farmers, activists, trauma workers, or people looking for work—they’ve all felt the impact of our changing economy.
They are uncertain about their job skills, worried about how they’ll ever afford a home, anxious about what to do about family members and friends lost to addiction, and concerned that whatever is driving their challenges keeps accelerating. But no one was complaining—the conversations were thoughtful, realistic, and focused on solutions. In fact, these have been some of the most inspiring days I can ever recall.
This is what my campaign is about. Californians don’t ignore or run away from problems. We confront them and we deal with them. Not a single person I’ve met is giving up. If anything, they are fired up. People on the frontlines are frustrated with being overlooked; they are fed up with the usual politics of kicking our most pressing problems down the road; and they are ready to take action.
To a person, these Californians brought energy, optimism, ideas, and talent—and they are ready to solve problems together. I learned of smart ways to reduce housing costs and encourage building, programs that would reduce the cost of mental health care and yield better results, innovative ways to educate people in skills that we know automation won’t eliminate, and reforms to make government more responsive.
As Lt. Governor, I’ll have the chance to draw upon all of this wisdom and drive good policies through our economic development commission, our community colleges and universities, our emergency management commission, and our coastal and lands commissions. There is no shortage of ways to ensure people’s skills keep pace with the changing job market, to build better neighborhoods, and to bring people together with solutions for mental health and addiction epidemics rather than relying on prisons or treatment centers that don’t work.
This is my latest idea: These travels have made me prouder than ever to be a Californian. It’s an experience that I’d like to share. So I’m going to start taking people along with me as we keep visiting with people throughout the state. From the deserts to the coast, from rural areas to metro centers, to farmlands and mountains, we aren’t as divided as we think (or as we pretend to be on Facebook). I look forward to seeing more of you soon—and bringing along company.
Thousands of Californians are already part of our campaign because of our outreach and nearly a thousand have already contributed. If you can, join us in making a contribution now at JeffBleich.com. California’s a big state and I look forward to seeing it and sharing it.

Earlier this week, a federal judge clarified that the Trump fraud commission’s request for sensitive voter data is just that — a request. The commission does not, and certainly Kobach does not, have the authority to compel states to surrender voters’ personal data.
But this isn’t stopping Trump, Pence, Kobach, and this commission from trying to intimidate states into complying with his request. Let me reassure you: I will not provide the Commission with the personal data of California voters.
Californians can be confident that when they register to vote or cast a ballot I will protect against presidential overreach and any effort to compel my office to turn over their private and sensitive information.
Today, Trump is trying to take away people’s health care, ban transgender soldiers from serving in our nation’s military, and attempting to suppress the vote. It’s time to stand and resist. It’s time to raise our voices and let Trump know that we will fight his efforts to take away our rights.
I am proud to stand with many Republican and Democratic secretaries of state who have also refused to comply with the fraud commission’s request. While it might seem as if there isn’t much bipartisanship when it comes to voting rights, I’m happy to share that at the last meeting of the National Association of Secretaries of State, secretaries unanimously approved a resolution reaffirming our duty to protect the integrity of our elections, including the secrecy of the ballot, security, and personal information included in our voter rolls.
I will continue to stand for your rights and your privacy. We cannot and will not stop fighting.
Thank you,
Alex Padilla

I know firsthand how a quality education can change the course of a life. I wouldn’t be where I am without public schools that gave me a second shot – and gave kids like me a chance to succeed. That’s why standing up for quality schools everywhere has been the cornerstone of my campaign for governor.
I’ll be hosting an online Town Hall on Education this Thursday, July 27 and want to hear from you! I’ll be answering your questions about the future of our state and the importance of making sure every child and family has equal access to an excellent public education.
An equal shot at a quality education for all of our children is THE civil rights issue of our time. It isn’t just the right thing to do – if we don’t educate millions more skilled workers, we won’t be able to keep up with the changing economy.

Yesterday, the LA Times published a Q&A with Delaine about her race for Governor which you can read here, but I wanted to share some highlights, and I hope you will share with your friends.
On the need for long-range planning
“I think it’s appalling that the state of California isn’t planning, and not only in K-12 and higher ed or preschool. It’s not planning in water, infrastructure. It’s not planning in so many areas. And there needs to be somebody who’s more nimble, who’s looking at the horizon instead of the hand in front of their face.”
The difference between an expense and an investment
“When I got to Sacramento I was really surprised that so many people treated everything as if it was an expense. I mean, that’s what I’ve said for years about the department of finance: They know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.”
It’s time for universal healthcare
“We’re spending more and getting less because there’s such a big profit for all kinds of entities, including the pharmaceutical industry. If we invested in high-quality care for all people we wouldn’t have the big expense of people getting really sick because they didn’t get early support and care.”
Path to Victory
“I don’t need the most money. I need enough money.”

Dear Friends and Family,
I’m writing to personally let you know that I have decided to make a run to be the next State Senator for the 14thSenate District in the Central Valley!
I’m running for the California State Senate because for far too long, local and rural communities throughout the Central Valley have been left behind. Eight years after the Great Recession our region has continued to be plagued by economic inequality, disparity and chronic disinvestment. Sadly, this stagnation has become the status quo for the people of the 14thSenate District with much of the blame for this status quo tracing back to our failed incumbent Senator, Andy Vidak. He has left working families without a voice, without a champion, and without a leader. Currently, there is no one that is dedicated to fighting for the causes of social and economic justice on behalf of the people of the 14th Senate District in our State’s Senate. We deserve better!
The people of Fresno, Kern, Kings, and Tulare Counties need and deserve a Senator deeply committed to tackling poverty, creating more good paying middle-class jobs, investing more in education and much needed infrastructure improvements, as well as addressing long-standing water issues, the need for cleaner air, universal healthcare and protections for immigrant communities. These priorities underscore the critical need for new leadership, real progress and fresh ideas, and they are precisely the reasons why I am running for the 14th Senate District.
This is OUR SEAT. The 14thSenate District has a 14% Democratic voter registration advantage and 60% of us voted for Hillary Clinton in last year’s Presidential election, this tells us that we have the numbers to win our seat back in 2018! This will not happen without hard work and a hard fought campaign. I cannot do this alone; I am counting on friends like you to help me along the way.
I need your help to get started; your contributions will help me to cover the costs of kicking off a strong campaign. Together, we can WIN!
Below is the link to my ActBlue account, where you can donate directly to my campaign. Anything helps and everything counts!
Soon, I will send out an official press release announcing the launch of my campaign. I look forward to working with you throughout the campaign and on the road to VICTORY in 2018!
Thank you in advance,
Abigail
