There are moments when we are called to stand up for justice and decency.
When Ted Cruz tried to keep a man in prison, even after it was discovered that the state had made a mistake, we took him on. It took a U.S. Supreme Court decision, but justice was finally served.
We have all needed someone to stand up for us at some point in our life. Fighting for justice for those who have been wronged and deserve a fair deal has been a driving force for me for as long as I can remember.

There are too many Californians today whose voices are not being heard as we all face the challenges of a new economy. They want leaders who take on how we ensure job skills keep pace with a fast-changing job market, how we keep families and finances safe online as cyber threats mount, and how we help new technologies meet basic needs like homes, healthcare, and education.
More people are joining our campaign every day to work together to empower Californians to meet these challenges.

The cost of life-saving medication is skyrocketing.
Pharmaceutical companies jack up prescription drug prices every year, without justifying the price increases or giving advance warning to consumers.
But access to prescription medication can be the difference between life or death. That’s why I authored Senate Bill 17 – to help shine a light on Big Pharma’s deceptive practices and the reasons behind escalating drug prices. We’re bringing much-needed transparency to the industry by requiring drug companies to give advanced notice before raising prices.

Last month, after the tragic and troubling violence in Charlottesville, Donald Trump doubled down on his defense of white supremacists and neo-nazis.
The following week, members of his Committee on Arts and Humanities, National Infrastructure Advisory Council, and Business Advisory Council took notice, decided that enough was enough, and resigned.
Yet, not one person from Trump’s “voter fraud” commission has resigned — not one.
Let’s remember: The history of voter suppression is rooted in white supremacy.
I have no doubt that the true goal of Trump’s sham voter fraud commission is to continue discrimination through voter suppression. That’s why members of this commission need to stand up against Trump’s defense of white supremacy.
They can’t have it both ways. Anybody who condemns white supremacy must also condemn attacks on voting rights. The members of the commission have a choice to make: if they stand against bigotry and discrimination, they must resign. By continuing to serve on the commission, they are legitimizing Trump’s voter suppression agenda and turning a blind eye to Trump’s defense of white supremacists.
The fight for voting rights is the fight for our democracy. It’s going to take all of us to protect our rights. But I know that if we continue to stand together, we will win.

America will not be the place where dreams come to die.
This great nation was built on the dreams of immigrants who came here looking for a better way of life and in doing so have shaped our culture and our daily lives.
In the midst of an administration already marked as the most shameful in modern history, yesterday’s announcement is one of Trump’s most shortsighted actions yet.
With his decision to end DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Trump has snuffed out hope for nearly 800,000 undocumented young men and women, “Dreamers” who were brought to this country as children and have grown to embrace this nation as their own. A decision that is drawing rebuke from both Republicans and Democrats alike.
Nearly one third of all Dreamers call California home and they, along with their parents, have helped make our state’s economy the 6th largest in the world. According to the CATO Institute, by terminating DACA and deporting the 800,000 people currently in the program, the immediate fiscal cost would be over $60 billion to the federal government along with a $280 billion reduction in economic growthover the next decade.
For California alone, this could cost our great economy an $11 billion loss. Not only is this a fight for the soul of our country, it is also an economic blow.
For the White House to reject their right to pursue their dreams is one of greatest betrayals of American values I can think of.
It is now incumbent upon us to do everything in our power to protect the community vital to the Californian spirit and determined way of life so that they can flourish and pursue the American Dream.

This past week has seen a surge of engagement for Delaine’s campaign on social media and on the campaign trail. What’s missing? The financial resources to keep this campaign in flight.

From city to city and town to town, I’ve been meeting with everyday Californians, elected officials, and experts to hear their perspectives on California’s future.
As someone who has played a key role in making this all possible, I want to share what I’ve been hearing on the road with you now.
As I told my friends in Bakersfield, I want to send a resounding signal throughout the United States that if they want to know how it’s done, they need to look at California.
That’s what I’ve been doing for the past few months: Talking to the people who live here about what’s working for them, and how we can do even better.
I’m proud to have earned the support of many of them, and hope to earn the support of many more, with your help, as this journey continues.
