The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.
Last month, after the tragic and troubling violence in Charlottesville, Donald Trump doubled down on his defense of white supremacists and neo-nazis.
The following week, members of his Committee on Arts and Humanities, National Infrastructure Advisory Council, and Business Advisory Council took notice, decided that enough was enough, and resigned.
Yet, not one person from Trump’s “voter fraud” commission has resigned — not one.
Let’s remember: The history of voter suppression is rooted in white supremacy.
I have no doubt that the true goal of Trump’s sham voter fraud commission is to continue discrimination through voter suppression. That’s why members of this commission need to stand up against Trump’s defense of white supremacy.
They can’t have it both ways. Anybody who condemns white supremacy must also condemn attacks on voting rights. The members of the commission have a choice to make: if they stand against bigotry and discrimination, they must resign. By continuing to serve on the commission, they are legitimizing Trump’s voter suppression agenda and turning a blind eye to Trump’s defense of white supremacists.
The fight for voting rights is the fight for our democracy. It’s going to take all of us to protect our rights. But I know that if we continue to stand together, we will win.
Thank you,
