America will not be the place where dreams come to die.

This great nation was built on the dreams of immigrants who came here looking for a better way of life and in doing so have shaped our culture and our daily lives.

In the midst of an administration already marked as the most shameful in modern history, yesterday’s announcement is one of Trump’s most shortsighted actions yet.

SIGN YOUR NAME TO #DEFENDDACA HERE

With his decision to end DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Trump has snuffed out hope for nearly 800,000 undocumented young men and women, “Dreamers” who were brought to this country as children and have grown to embrace this nation as their own. A decision that is drawing rebuke from both Republicans and Democrats alike.

Nearly one third of all Dreamers call California home and they, along with their parents, have helped make our state’s economy the 6th largest in the world. According to the CATO Institute, by terminating DACA and deporting the 800,000 people currently in the program, the immediate fiscal cost would be over $60 billion to the federal government along with a $280 billion reduction in economic growthover the next decade.

For California alone, this could cost our great economy an $11 billion loss. Not only is this a fight for the soul of our country, it is also an economic blow.

For the White House to reject their right to pursue their dreams is one of greatest betrayals of American values I can think of.

It is now incumbent upon us to do everything in our power to protect the community vital to the Californian spirit and determined way of life so that they can flourish and pursue the American Dream.

ADD YOUR NAME NEXT TO MINE AND STAND WITH OUR 800,000 DREAMERS

In solidarity,
Kevin
