Election season is in full gear

As the race heats up, I’ve been spending all my time outside of work meeting with voters and campaigning like crazy. And it’s become apparent to me that successful campaigns require two things — hard work and money. The yard signs you see lining the street, the ads you see on your television and your computer, the clipboards you see volunteers using — none of these things are free. – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

And we’re up against a LOT of money:

Fundraising so far: Democrat Andrew Janz: $70,000 / Republican Jerry Dyer: $290,000

That means Dyer has enough money to drown out our messaging — and with my campaign facing so many attacks from him, local Republicans, and Devin Nunes, we can’t afford to fall silent against him.

Will you chip in before our end of year deadline so we can compete in this election? We’re $5,763 short of our goal, and we need your help to make up the difference:

Thank you,

Andrew

“No Town Left Behind”
SORIA ENDS HER 2019 LISTENING TOUR

Esmeralda Soria visited Merced, Atwater, Planada, Gustine, Madera, Dos Palos, Los Baños, Chowchilla, Fresno, and Livingston in an effort to hear directly from residents on important issues such as affordable housing, education, health care, prescription drug costs, jobs, and clean air and water.

FRESNO, CA – Esmeralda Soria spent the past three months visiting every single town in the 16th Congressional District including Merced, Atwater, Planada, Gustine, Madera, Dos Palos, Los Baños, Chowchilla, Fresno and Livingston, where she heard directly from residents on several key issues.

While meeting with two of Planada’s Community Service District Board members, the issues of jobs, water, immigration reform, increasing costs of housing, and infrastructure were among the topics of discussions. In Planada, she met with Planada’s Community Service District Board to talk about the increasing cost of housing and how families have felt ignored and disengaged in this area of the district.

Gustine residents and small business owners welcomed her with open arms and talked about their concerns with air pollution, lack of jobs, gun violence, and how they feel overlooked by the establishment. Madera voters also spoke about issues with clean drinking water and affordable housing. They are excited to hear that Esmeralda Soria will represent the people and not corporations.

In Dos Palos, she met with the daughter of Cambodian immigrants and recent San Francisco State graduate who came back to the valley after her father, a small business owner for 16 years faced serious health challenges. Her story is that of many young people in this district who are juggling college debt while trying to help their aging parents.

In Los Baños, she met with local community members and toured the Merced College Los Baños CTE Welding program to learn about existing career opportunities for local students and explore the needs that exist to expand those opportunities for the rest of the District.

In Chowchilla, she met with residents who also shared the sentiments of the rest of the district in their desire to address the housing, education, and healthcare issues. Fresno residents expressed similar concerns while also stressing the issue of affordable housing and affordable education. The last stop was Atwater, where residents have also been affected by California’s Affordable Housing Crisis and where students are struggling to pay for higher education. She met with doctors, nurses and frontline healthcare workers to discuss critical healthcare needs in the Valley.

“Too often, politicians go to Washington, listen to the special interests, and forget the people here in the Valley. I promise to listen to every voice in every town to ensure that the people of 16th Congressional District have the representation that they deserve,” Soria says.

Soria believes that in order to truly represent the people of the 16th Congressional District, she needs to talk to everyone, everywhere, leaving no town behind.

Here’s the latest in California’s 21st District:

Analysts at Politico recently listed CA-21 as a “tossup” race. This is a significant shift in the Republicans’ direction, and it’s attributable in part to David Valadao’s large fundraising haul with help from corporate PACs.

Last week, Trump’s White House issued a direct attack against TJ Cox for his vote in favor of impeachment. This is the strongest signal yet that Trump himself is invested in flipping CA-21 back to red.

Our final FEC fundraising deadline is in less than ten days, and we’re still just short of our goal to fight back.

Now that Trump is coming after TJ, we’re humbly asking if you will chip in your very first contribution to TJ’s campaign. Any amount helps, but just $10 from you will make a difference.

We won’t be intimidated

Nunes is attempting to intimidate Andrew Janz out of the mayoral race: Roll Call: “Nunes’ lawyer sent a letter to Nunes’ 2018 Democratic opponent, Andrew Janz, demanding Janz make the person behind the cow account stop [tweeting].” – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Roll Call: 'Nunes' lawyer sent a letter to Nunes' 2018 Democratic opponent, Andrew Janz, demanding Janz make the person behind the cow account stop [tweeting].'

Nunes is suing so many people and entities that it’s hard to keep track — and Andrew is likely next on the list.

He knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s desperate to keep the Republican grip over local politics and prevent us from building a bench of Democratic leaders.

We need to build a war chest so that our campaign can stand up to the legal fees he will likely try to bury us in — will you chip in to make sure we can stand up and fight back against these attacks?

Not the time for a victory lap.

“"

This week, I cast my vote to impeach the President of the United States.

As you know, I did not come to Congress to take this vote. This campaign has always been about working families in the 21st district — our health care, our air and water, our schools, and our farming economy. But I swore an oath to uphold our Constitution, and the evidence that Trump abused his power is too clear to ignore.

This should go without saying, but this is not the time for any of us to take a victory lap. Republicans are gearing up for an all-out offensive to punish the Democrats who voted to uphold the law. And whether we like it or not, Trump himself has indicated that he’s starting right here in CA-21.

So here’s my message to you today: If you’ve been following our work closely, and if you’d hoped that Congress would step up and uphold the rule of law — now is not the time to retreat. It’s time to take a stand, because this is only the beginning.

According to the White House, CA-21 is officially one of the Republicans’ top-targets in 2020. With our FEC deadline approaching, I’m asking you to take a stand right now and chip in $10 to help me overcome the attacks headed my way.

Yesterday’s vote has historic consequences, but it was vitally important that this representative body take a firm stand against abuses of power.

As a history professor, I made sure that my students understood the importance of being active in our electoral system and that their representatives work for them.

I taught my students that since our country’s foundation, we have served as a beacon to the world because of a commitment to progress, justice, and a promise to create a more tolerant and fair society.

As a society we will never achieve this vision if we fail to elect representatives that fiercely protect the rule of law and hold the president accountable.

Your continued support of this campaign is a signal to our representatives that we are unafraid to vote them out when they fail to abide by the will of the people and the constitution.
