ARBALLO IN THE COMMUNITY:
Last week, the Arballo campaign placed large signs across the district thanking essential workers.

“Essential workers in our district and across the country have continued to work so the rest of us are able to stay home. As they drive to work, these signs communicate that the community supports them, and that we are grateful for the work they are doing.” Arballo said. “To continue to show our support for essential workers, it’s important to recognize we each have an individual responsibility to do our part to slow the spread, by listening to public health experts, staying home, social distancing, and wearing masks in public places.” Press Release Here.

On Monday, May 11th, we had our Evening of Action event where volunteers made wellness calls to residents of the 22nd District. We’re so thankful for all of our amazing volunteers! Want to help us make calls next time? Email our Field Director, Johnathon at Johnathon@PhilArballo.com

ENDORSEMENTS & ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

Our campaign has been awarded the 2020 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Distinction. Moms Demand Action is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, and is the nation’s largest grassroots volunteer network working to end gun violence in America.

CORONAVIRUS:
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in CA-22, the Arballo team is still working remotely and abiding by Shelter-in-Place regulations. We encourage everyone, who can, to stay home as much as possible and wear a mask when going out for essentials.

More and more cities — including right here in the Central Valley — are ordering shut downs of restaurants and non-essential businesses in order to slow the coronavirus. That’s creating a major financial strain on working families who now suddenly may not be able to afford rent.

Our necessary response to the coronavirus is also hurting small businesses that have been forced to shut down.

As we work to mitigate this crisis, it’s so important that we prevent working families and small businesses from needless suffering. That’s why I’m joining the nationwide push to put an end to evictions and foreclosures during this pandemic.

Will you add your name to my petition to protect working families and small business owners across the country?

I know this is a difficult time for many. And as important as it is that the American people listen to the CDC’s recommendations of social distancing and good hygiene practices — it’s just as critical that Congress do its part to alleviate the economic fallout of this crisis.

I’m proud to see Congress come together to get work done on guaranteed paid sick leave and in providing relief to those in need. But we need to do much more:

Join me: sign the petition calling on Congress to pass legislation to pause all foreclosures and evictions during this pandemic >>

All my very best,

TJ Cox

April 21 Delegate Elections May Be Moved

I hope everyone is safe. Just because there is a DNC election on, does not mean there are not still important updates we need to know about.

As you have seen in the news, several states have been trying to move their primaries. Many of these states have Republican legislatures that have refused to offer broad vote by mail options like Washington, Colorado and California. If the Senate had passed HR1 (For the People Act), then this would have been an option already.

I have been advised by CDP that an announcement is coming soon regarding the status of the April 21 district-level Convention Delegate elections, which may be delayed. Please keep an eye out for the update from CDP.

DNC Offering Webinars on Digital Organizing

The DNC is hosting a webinar on Digital Organizing amid the COVID outbreak to give you tools to continue organizing during these difficult times. My contacts at the Rural desk shared this with me, but I think this will be useful for every part of the state. There are still openings for Thursday and Friday for these free trainings.

Increasing DNC Geographic Diversity

Several other states such as Washington provide for specific DNC seats for rural Democrats. We have some great candidates running from outside of LA, Sacramento and the Bay area, but with important rural advocacy and organizing issues and some other Democratic regions such as OC and San Diego with limited representation, it may make sense to look into following Washington state’s model to ensure that our delegation includes several seats that preserve geographic diversity. I support efforts to look into rules changes to effect this sort of change.

As always, if there is something we can do better, I’d like to hear from you via email.

McClintock voted to put our communities at risk for COVID-19

McClintock voted to put our communities at risk for COVID-19

Our community was the first in California to suffer a COVID-19 fatality and has a very high population of senior citizens and the medically vulnerable. But Rep. Tom McClintock last night was the only member of Congress in California to vote against H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

The legislation to provide access to free testing and support for workers and businesses affected by the pandemic passed with an overwhelming bi-partisan vote of 363-40 and even has the support of Trump.

For Tom McClintock to vote against this bill is an abdication of his most fundamental duty as a member of Congress.

He voted to put communities at risk, to undermine our public health system, and to shortchange workers and businesses across our district—and our country. McClintock’s vote was an attack on common sense and common decency.

COVID-19 doesn’t care if you are a Republican or a Democrat.

Our schools are being closed, businesses hurt, and workers are facing an uncertain future, the possibility of lost paychecks and food insecurity. Our local hospitals have coronavirus patients, but they have shrinking supplies of protective equipment and our community’s most vulnerable populations don’t have access to tests.

In a public health crisis, it is the responsibility of our leaders to make sure the public has the resources and information they need to stay safe. Because Tom McClintock refuses to do his job, today I brought together local public health officials and other leaders for a community wide tele-townhall on the COVID-19 pandemic. They shared best practices and worked to make sure our communities not only understand the threat but know what they can do to access care and protect their families.

The hard working taxpayers of CA 04—the parents, seniors, working families, businesses and healthcare workers on the frontlines of this crisis deserve nothing less.
