LOCAL FIRE FIGHTER ORGS RALLY BEHIND RICARDO LARA FOR INSURANCE COMMISSIONER
Three Organizations from Across the State Representing Fire Fighters Endorse State Senator Ricardo Lara for California State Insurance Commissioner
LONG BEACH, CA– Today, State Senator Ricardo Lara continued to pick up support from working families and public safety groups, notching endorsements from a trio of fire fighters organizations backing his campaign for California State Insurance Commissioner. The groups include Berkeley Professional Firefighters Local 1227; Federal Firefighters, San Diego, Local #F-3; and Santa Fe Springs Firefighters, Local #3507. Previously Senator Lara earned the endorsement of the California Professional Firefighters.
The three organizations join other public safety groups backing Senator Lara’s statewide bid, including the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) and Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS).
Lara released the following statement after receiving the endorsements :
“Our fire fighters put their lives on the line every single day to protect us. I have immense respect for the work they do, and am deeply honored to receive this support from these brave men and women across California. I have dedicated much of my career to addressing climate change and advancing environmental protections to reduce wildfires. In the aftermath of California’s terrible fires, I am fighting to protect consumers against insurance companies that abandon fire victims. As Insurance Commissioner, I will work to protect Californians who lose property or are injured due to wildfires. The last thing consumers need is an insurance company taking advantage of them during their time of need.”
This round of endorsements is just the latest growth of Lara’s support from working families. Earlier this week he received the support of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) California PEOPLE.
Recently, Senator Lara released a new gripping digital video highlighting his vision of a California with healthcare for everyone.

I’m proud to be the only candidate for Lt. Governor to campaign in every county in California, and I am proud that we are making our 58-county strategy a cornerstone of this campaign. I have always been an organizer, and I believe that leaders need to listen to the people they represent. The voices across this state matter.
In order to reach every corner of California, we’re signing up County Captains and using the latest digital tools to engage people across the state. We have an incredible team spreading the word about our campaign every single day.
If you live in Northern California, you may have met our Outreach Director Elmy Bermejo or our Deputy Campaign Manager Angeles Roy. Or if you live in Southern California, perhaps you have seen Southern California Director Dallas Fowler with Faye Geyen.
Elmy, Angeles, Dallas, Faye, and the rest of our grassroots team have been expanding our ground game, but there is still more work to do and we need your help to propel us to June.

Young Girls of Color Rock!
Joining our campaign are two young girls from South East Fresno who will be our Artivism Director and Youth Organizer for the campaign. They are the next generation of leaders. Together, Amira and Naima, along with their best friends, started The Poderosas, a young girl of color paint crew. Their mission is to create art that tells their stories about what it’s like to grow up in South East Fresno. Other youth are welcome to join and participate in the next Poderosas paint party on April 20th at 5:00pm. The art pieces created by the Poderosas will be featured in our campaign events and campaign materials. For more information contact Alex.

IN LG BID, HERNANDEZ LOCKS IN MORE PUBLIC SAFETY SUPPORT
Pomona Police Officers’ Association Endorses Senator Ed Hernandez for Lt. Governor
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Coalescing more support from public safety organizations as he campaigns to become California’s next Lieutenant Governor, today State Senator Ed Hernandez won an endorsement from the Pomona Police Officers’ Association.
In making public their endorsement, the Pomona Police Officers’ Association released the following statement:
“The Pomona Police Officers’ Association is proud to endorse Senator Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor. In the State Legislature, he helped find solutions that protected vital public safety services and fought to guarantee retirement benefits for California’s public employees. Ed Hernandez is the candidate we trust to support law enforcement and to make our communities a safer place.”
Earlier this week, Hernandez secured the highly-coveted endorsement of California Police Chiefs, continuing to solidify his status as the choice of public safety organizations. Hernandez has been endorsed by over 30 organizations representing public safety officials.
In February, Senator Hernandez was the top vote getter among delegates at the California Democratic Party convention. With 1,157 votes cast in his favor at the California Democratic Party convention, Senator Hernandez received more delegate votes than any candidate running for Governor of California, where the top vote getter earned 1,087 votes, as well as more votes than California’s incumbent U.S. Senator, who received 1,023. Senator Hernandez triumphed at convention despite not surpassing the high 60% vote threshold required to win the endorsement.
Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.
To view Senator Hernandez’ video ad, “Proven Progressive,” click here.
Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.
A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities. As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.
Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.

Protecting consumers is one of the most important jobs for the next Attorney General. It’s one of the major reasons I am running for the office of Attorney General.
As Insurance Commissioner, I have stood up to the largest of special interests – the insurance industry – time and time again.

This last week I asked you step up for my campaign in a big way. We set a goal of raising $50,000 online, and you didn’t disappoint. In fact, you all crushed it.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sustaining our campaign for a brighter, more progressive future.
Just yesterday, we were handed another reminder of what’s at stake in this election.
Trump declared that he would be sending our already overstretched military to guard the border while his racist “wall” is being built.
I can think of no better reminder for why we’re all in this together.
With this president, and this White House, there can be no compromise. We must unequivocally resist his efforts to roll our country backwards and divide us.
That’s why I’m running for Senate to begin with, and why I’m so grateful you stepped up to help us.
Michael, I promise you this: I’ll always take on the tough fights and speak out for what’s right.
It’s good to know that you’ll have my back on this journey.
