Fresno District 3 Updates

Fresno District 3 Updates

Dear Resident,

I want to provide an update on City Council actions taken during the 8-19-21 City Council meeting and share information on meetings/events for next week.

Yesterday, the Council approved a contract award to Imprenta Communications Group for redistricting outreach services. This means that we’ll begin to see and hear more about the redistricting process which occurs every 10 years. A 6-month extension for the completion date of the Hotel Fresno residential project was approved. The completion date was estimated to be July 31, 2021 but has now been extended to January 31, 2022. When completed, this major transformation of a National Historic Register site will have 79 affordable multi-family units in the upper six floors, and the first floor will include retail space and communal area for events.

With that in mind, on Tuesday, August 24  there will be a virtual community meeting to discuss a proposed housing development near Gaston Middle School. The meeting will be held via Zoom at 6:30 PM. The project applicant, BDM Builders LLC will be conducting the meeting. The project is a proposed 468 unit multi-family/multi-story residential development including open space, recreational amenities, a fitness center, and electric vehicle charging facilities. Please note that no project applications have been filed with the City of Fresno at this time. The purpose of this public informational meeting is to advise the neighborhood of the proposal and its process for consideration and solicit input on the project before it is actually filed with the City.

Furthermore, your input is requested on the Here to Stay report that was commissioned by the City of Fresno as part of its displacement prevention efforts. Please provide comments or complete a survey by Friday, September 3, 2021 to finalize the report. I want to remind folks that your participation in community meetings and events is very important

Respectfully,

Miguel Angel Arias
Councilmember, District 3

Say NO to the Republican Recall

Say NO to the Republican Recall

https://stoptherepublicanrecall.com

Who is behind the recall?

A partisan, Republican coalition of anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, QAnon conspiracy theorists and Trump supporters.

The recall is powered by a partisan, Republican coalition of national Republicans, anti-vaxxers, QAnon conspiracy theorists, anti-immigrant activists and Trump supporters. They want to overturn Governor Newsom’s election, and their victory could threaten California’s efforts to fight COVID-19.

From the Los Angeles Times:

“Allied with radical and extreme elements… includ[ing] groups promoting distrust of government, science and medicine; peddlers of QAnon doomsday conspiracies; “patriots” readying for battle and one organization allied with the far-right extremist group, the Proud Boys.”

POLITICO reported how one of the co-founders and chief organizers of the recall suggested it would be a good idea to “microchip” immigrants, and anti-immigrant rhetoric has been central to recall organizers’ appeals to supporters.

National Republicans like Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Devin Nunes have all backed the recall effort. The Republican National Committee has even cut the recall a $250,000 check.

Instead of fighting COVID-19, Republicans are pulling a page from the Trump playbook and attacking Californians. In fact, a Republican recall will cost the state $100 million – money that could be used to help vaccinate our communities.

The Link at Blackstone

Dear Resident,

I am excited to welcome “The Link at Blackstone” to the neighborhood!

Councilmembers Soria and Esparza toured Fresno’s newest affordable housing complex today. The 88 unit fully leased modern design complex located at Blackstone and McKinley offers 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units. The complex will also be home to the City of Fresno’s first Neighborhood Senior Center and Clinica Sierra Vista which will provide primary medical care, dental, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn and comprehensive Perinatal services!

5 years in the making! Proud of this work.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Esmeralda Soria
Fresno City Councilmember

Querido residente,
