I want to provide an update on City Council actions taken during the 8-19-21 City Council meeting and share information on meetings/events for next week.
Yesterday, the Council approved a contract award to Imprenta Communications Group for redistricting outreach services. This means that we’ll begin to see and hear more about the redistricting process which occurs every 10 years. A 6-month extension for the completion date of the Hotel Fresno residential project was approved. The completion date was estimated to be July 31, 2021 but has now been extended to January 31, 2022. When completed, this major transformation of a National Historic Register site will have 79 affordable multi-family units in the upper six floors, and the first floor will include retail space and communal area for events.
With that in mind, on Tuesday, August 24 there will be a virtual community meeting to discuss a proposed housing development near Gaston Middle School. The meeting will be held via Zoom at 6:30 PM. The project applicant, BDM Builders LLC will be conducting the meeting. The project is a proposed 468 unit multi-family/multi-story residential development including open space, recreational amenities, a fitness center, and electric vehicle charging facilities. Please note that no project applications have been filed with the City of Fresno at this time. The purpose of this public informational meeting is to advise the neighborhood of the proposal and its process for consideration and solicit input on the project before it is actually filed with the City.
Furthermore, your input is requested on the Here to Stay report that was commissioned by the City of Fresno as part of its displacement prevention efforts. Please provide comments or complete a survey by Friday, September 3, 2021 to finalize the report. I want to remind folks that your participation in community meetings and events is very important.
Respectfully,
Miguel Angel Arias Councilmember, District 3
