I just got back from my first big trip to Iowa as a candidate for president, where I kicked off our Climate Mission Tour. I wish everyone on my team could have felt the energy; I feel more inspired than ever. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so let me show you what I’m talking about!

Talk with Iowa State students

Next, we went to Iowa State to talk with college students like Gabrielle and Brad. They told me about the action they’re taking locally and globally to combat climate change. They told me about why climate action is the galvanizing movement of their generation. And I was proud to stand with them for a few hours during a chilly Iowa day.

Talk with activists in Des Moines

During our last stop in Des Moines, we met with local activists like Channing who have been organizing their communities to combat climate changes for years. I’m so inspired by their work.

I’m so grateful to the people I met in Iowa who made me feel so at home. I can’t wait to see you at a future stop on the Climate Mission Tour soon. We have a lot to talk about.

We created a new Clean Energy Fund, which has invested more than $100 million in developing and deploying innovative energy technologies and growing clean energy businesses and jobs. We passed the largest and greenest transportation infrastructure investment package in state history. And we started the Clean Energy Institute at the University of Washington, which is pioneering research into next-generation renewable energy technologies like solar and battery storage.

I know our country can do big things, because I’ve seen it throughout my career and throughout American history. The Best Month Yet

February was the best month ever for our campaign—we received donations from 34,025 different people for a total of $570,954.82!  The average donation was $16.78.  That’s incredible.  THANK YOU for making it happen.  We raised as much as many other major candidates for the month.  
Aside from the raw numbers, which are staggering, here’s another reason I am excited.  I received this message hundreds of times via social media: 
“You are the first political candidate I have ever donated to.”  
This message is important.  It’s become a constant drumbeat.  And it means that we are poised to do great things.
I had a meeting last week with a social psychology professor named Jonathan Haidt.  He wrote a book called The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion.  He also worked on a report called Hidden Tribes that came out recently.  It turns out that the proportion of politically disengaged Americans is 26%—one of the largest groups in America.

We will of course compete for every vote.  Many traditional Democratic constituents are excited about this campaign.  The Freedom Dividend has the power to improve the situations of millions of Americans.   
But this campaign has the potential to change the game by activating groups that have not been traditionally politically active.  This group is called the Exhausted Majority.  The Exhausted Majority feels ill-served by the political system as it currently functions. The Exhausted Majority is many of us. 
We have the potential to realign our entire political system by offering solutions for the true problems of this age.  As one small sign, here is a video of my appearance on Tucker Carlson last Friday.  I honestly didn’t know what to expect—but it went tremendously well.  I will go anywhere someone wants to have a real conversation.  
The huge lesson from the Hidden Tribes report is that our political media does not reflect the points-of-view of most of the American people.  Most Americans are very reasonable.  We agree on most of the big things.  Unfortunately, one of the things we agree on today is that our government has grown unresponsive.  It needs to be pushed into the 21st century.
And that is what we are going to do.  History has given us this opportunity.  Thank you for taking full advantage.    
This week I am doing media in New York, including the Breakfast Club, Vice, and CBS, before heading to SXSW on Friday.  We are having a rally on Friday in Austin that already has 800 people RSVPed.  After a few days in Iowa, I’ll be in San Francisco where we have another big rally that has over 1,200 people RSVPed.
We’re on track to hit the 65,000 individual donors needed to make the Democratic debate in June, but we’re not there yet.  We are at 44,869 right now.  THANK YOU for the help in getting to this point, and for all the help in continuing to push us to the finish line.
We are getting stronger every day.  The Revolution of Reason is on.  Nothing will stop us.

This Sunday at 9:00 pm ET, I’m joining CNN for a town hall discussion from Austin, Texas. 
 
At the same time, supporters all across the country are hosting watch parties to begin building community around our bold vision for the future.

We have several goals for the weekend. I wanted to fill you in on them and provide concrete ways you can help.
 
First: I want to make you proud.
 
This one’s on me, and it’s sort of cheesy to say, but it’s true. I want to make you proud.
 
Whether you are on our Grassroots Fundraising Team, share things on social media, are a donor, have joined us in-person at an event in your community, or have told one person about our vision — I am so grateful. 
 
I hope that I make you proud of the work you are doing, and that you’ll continue to be an enthusiastic member of our community.
 
Second: We need to expand our donor group.
 
This one we need to do together. We’ve said this here before but, the DNC announced that in order to be invited to the first candidate debate in June, we’ll need to have the support of 65,000 unique donors. We’re not quite there yet, and there’s no other way to say this: I need your help. 
 
 
Third: We need to introduce new people to our bold vision.
The town hall will be the first time many people learn my name and hear about our bold vision for the future. It’s certainly going to help build awareness but we know that personal outreach is still the most effective thing when it comes to talking about politics and our values.
