I’m the proud daughter of two former farmworkers in the Central Valley, who dreamed big and fought hard in order to be the first Latina to attend Stanford and Harvard from my high school. I’ve been honored to serve the public as a teacher, the first Latina Chief of Staff in the history of the United States Senate, and Chief of Operations at the California Department of Justice.
Amanda Renteria is running for Governor in California — because its time for new voices who can change the culture of politics. Amanda recently stepped down as Chief of Operations for California’s Department of Justice. She is the daughter of former farmworkers in the Central Valley who went on to attend Stanford and Harvard. Since beginning her career in public service nearing two decades ago, she has served as a High School teacher, a budget analyst in one of California’s largest cities, and became the first Latina Chief of Staff in history of the United States Senate. It’s time to inspire a new generation of leaders and build a California ready for the future. Click here to donate if you agree.
I respect Senator Dianne Feinstein’s decades of service, but California has a leadership problem in Washington, DC.
We’re the 6th largest economy in the world, but when it comes to national legislative fights and presenting a positive alternative to the Trump agenda, Senator Feinstein has been silent or worse; even forgiving of the president.
As Kevin’s campaign manager, I’m making sure we run a different kind of campaign.
California is bigger than San Francisco and Los Angeles, so we’re running up and down the state to hear from everyone. While we can’t afford traveling from county to county in a private jet, we’re scrappy as hell and we’re going to listen closely to all the Californians who feel overlooked, or as if their current representation has failed to deliver economic justice.
HERNANDEZ RECEIVES HIGH-POWERED BACKING FROM CONGRESSWOMAN SANCHEZ
Congresswoman Linda Sanchez Picks State Senator Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Continuing to expand up his roster of support among some of California’s most esteemed leaders as he campaigns for the office of California Lieutenant Governor, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez garnered the endorsement of Congresswoman and U.S. House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair, Linda Sanchez.
In a statement released following the endorsement, Congresswoman Sanchez remarked:
“I’m proud to endorse State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor of California. He’s brought a clear vision to the State Senate by fighting to expand access to healthcare and lowering the cost of prescription drug prices. He has prioritized renewable and clean energy power like wind and solar, growing our middle class economy and investing more in public schools. Ed Hernandez has proven himself as a fearless leader who fights to deliver progress for working families across California. We need him as our next Lieutenant Governor.”
In February, Senator Hernandez was the top vote getter among delegates at the California Democratic Party convention. With 1,157 votes cast in his favor at the California Democratic Party convention, Senator Hernandez received more delegate votes than any candidate running for Governor of California, where the top vote getter earned 1,087 votes, as well as more votes than California’s incumbent U.S. Senator, who received 1,023. Senator Hernandez triumphed at convention despite not surpassing the high 60% vote threshold required to win the endorsement.
Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.

Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.
A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities. As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.
Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.

One day before Equal Pay Day, Fresno resident Aileen Rizo prevails in her Equal Pay Lawsuit ruling issued by the Ninth Circuit Federal Court. Aileen Rizo vs. Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Jim Yovino.
Today, April 9, 2018, one day before national Equal Pay Day, the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a historic and overwhelmingly victorious decision on my case.
The en banc court held that prior salary alone or in combination with other factors cannot justify a wage differential between male and female employees. This is a battle I have been fighting for nearly 6 years. As a mathematics educator, finishing my second masters degree, I found out that a newly hired male with less education, seniority and experience would be making $13,000 more. Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Jim Yovino defended the salary discrepancy solely on the basis of my previous salary. Today, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has taken a stance on the right side of history.
This case is not about me, but about all women. That is the reason I worked for the last few years helping to pass some of the strongest pay equality bills in the nation. Releasing women from low wages that have burdened us for decades provides an avenue of equality that we have dreamed of. This is the reason why I’m running for State Assembly.
Please join me at a Press Conference announcing my successful suit for equal pay issued from the Ninth Circuit of Appeals. The Press conference will begin at 4:30 P.M. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the U.S. Federal Courthouse, 2300 Tulare Street, Fresno CA, 93721.

FIRST: TJ Cox entered the race to unseat Trump-ally David Valadao in CA-21 THEN: He became the FIRST CA candidate on to the Democrats’ ‘Red-to-Blue’ program NOW: The experts at the Cook Political Report lifted his chances to FLIP CA-21!
Here’s why this is a HUGE DEAL, Michael:
California’s House races are critical to our chances at the House majority. TJ Cox is the FIRST and ONLY California Democrat running in a 1:1 matchup with an incumbent Republican — and he’s gaining momentum!

I was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction the same year that the anti-immigrant Prop 187 was passed by the voters of California. That year, the Republicans managed to take over the State Assembly.
I was one of only three (out of eight) elected Democratic state office holders. Governor Wilson threatened to have me recalled if I didn’t enforce Prop 187 by ordering teachers to do background checks on their students and report them to Immigration.
I refused the governor’s order, and I told him I would see him in court. I sent my department’s lawyer to argue against the Assistant State Attorney General over the constitutionality of Prop 187. We won. Prop 187 was declared unconstitutional.
Two years later, Democrats took back the State Assembly and we have not looked back.
As governor, I will not waste your precious tax dollars to deploy California’s National Guard to “guard” the border against imagined threats.
We are not going to demonize our immigrants who contribute so much to California and are one of the reasons we are the 6th largest economy in the world.
We are going to stand together and invest in our children and families because a people, united, will never be defeated. Share this email here.
