One day before Equal Pay Day, Fresno resident Aileen Rizo prevails in her Equal Pay Lawsuit ruling issued by the Ninth Circuit Federal Court. Aileen Rizo vs. Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Jim Yovino.

Today, April 9, 2018, one day before national Equal Pay Day, the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a historic and overwhelmingly victorious decision on my case.

The en banc court held that prior salary alone or in combination with other factors cannot justify a wage differential between male and female employees. This is a battle I have been fighting for nearly 6 years. As a mathematics educator, finishing my second masters degree, I found out that a newly hired male with less education, seniority and experience would be making $13,000 more. Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Jim Yovino defended the salary discrepancy solely on the basis of my previous salary. Today, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has taken a stance on the right side of history.

This case is not about me, but about all women. That is the reason I worked for the last few years helping to pass some of the strongest pay equality bills in the nation. Releasing women from low wages that have burdened us for decades provides an avenue of equality that we have dreamed of. This is the reason why I’m running for State Assembly.

Please join me at a Press Conference announcing my successful suit for equal pay issued from the Ninth Circuit of Appeals. The Press conference will begin at 4:30 P.M. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the U.S. Federal Courthouse, 2300 Tulare Street, Fresno CA, 93721.
