First ever work day to clean site is March 10th from 9:30 am to 2 pm at Clovis Ave south of Butler Ave. Bring rakes, shovels, tools.
The City of Fresno has approved the program in two steps for the next year: 1) volunteers must prepare the site, and 2) raise $100K.
Note: The Southeast complex will have soccer, volleyball, basketball, an indoor soccer place for little kids to learn, a playground and community garden! Also, the FCDCC is honoring leader Jose Leon-Barraza at our dinner in April.

Members of JPA:
This is to inform you that under the City of Fresno’s Adopt the Park Program work of volunteers is being scheduled for the 49-acre park site the following six Saturdays. The first day of work will be on Saturday, 10, 2018 starting at 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 pm. (We cancelled the work scheduled for this coming Saturday due to the rain forecast). The Roosevelt Youth Soccer League will provide volunteers for the first Saturday, along with other community groups that have expressed an interest in participating.
Last week I met and toured the site with Mr. Parvin Neloms, Director of PARCS of the City of Fresno along with top managers of his department. He appeared to be supportive of our work and fundraising efforts.
I also would like to inform you that a grant applications in the amount of $34.000 was filed with the 2018 Social Equity Tree Planting Grant Program. The Nonprofit status of SEFCEDA was used for this application and has been approved by the City of Fresno. Additionally, on behalf of the JPA we have prepared a proposal for a $1 million grant also for tree planting is being developed with the California Forestry and Fire Department. A grant application will be presented for your approval consideration once we are given the green light by California Forestry and Fire Department to proceed with the grant application phase. We also filed a $5,000 grant application for tools with Home Depot. An our fundraising work will continue.
Tomorrow I will be travelling to Visalia to attend another grant funding opportunity for the development of parks.
I would like to have a press conference on the first day of clean up on March 10. I will send you confirming information later, hoping that you can join us if your schedules would allow it.
Our Fundraising efforts and seeking the donation of professional services will continue for the continued development of this site for a long-term lease and ownership of this site by the JPA.

California Democratic Party Includes Tuition-Free College In Platform
“$48 Fix” Can Make Higher Ed Accessible to All – And Alleviate Student Debt Crisis
SAN DIEGO, CA – Just as fierce battles waged for endorsements in the races for Governor and US Senator, the California Democratic Party passed its 2018 platform on Sunday that would make California first-in-the-nation to support fully tuition-free public colleges for all. The platform states that the California Democratic Party supports a return to the Master Plan of 1960 by eliminating all tuition and fees at the University of California, California State University, and California Community Colleges for all students. The platform would address the national student debt crisis by providing cost-of-living financial aid while students are in college.
The platforms refers to progressive taxation as a way to finance this return to the Master Plan’s definition of free public college for all residents of California. The $48 Fix is a progressive income tax costing just $48 or less a year for half of the taxpaying population; this would eliminate all tuition and fees at public colleges in California. The $48 Fix policy paper can be viewed at 48fix.org/policy-paper. Advocates can endorse the plan at 48fix.org/take-action/join-the-movement/.
“We have been waiting for the Democratic party to articulate young people’s views on this topic for a long time,” said Amy Hines-Shaikh, Director of Reclaim CA Higher Education Coalition, delegate to the California Democratic Party, and a co-author of the resolution.
“The platform would also invest greatly in schools so that students can earn top-quality education in a timely manner,” said Jonathan Abboud, also a delegate and platform committee member and elected Community College Trustee. “Inclusion in the California Democratic Party’s is a clear sign that now is the time to act to bring back tuition-free higher education California,” said Abboud. “Candidates running under the CDP banner must make it a point to support tuition free public college for all and we, the voters, must hold them accountable to it.”
Daraka Larimore-Hall, Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party said: “100 years ago progressives fought for and won universal K-12 education and the middle class prospered as a result. It is clear 12th grade no longer cuts it. We must expand free education to include public colleges so that everyone can have an opportunity at a successful middle class life.”

We are the Reclaim CA Higher Education Coalition. Our mission is to reclaim the Donahoe Act of 1960, otherwise known as California’s Master Plan for Higher Education. We advocate for a return to its vision of affordable, accessible, quality public higher education for all Californians. In our advocacy, we include all stakeholders, such as students, parents, workers, unions, community groups, faith leaders, educational organizations, elected representatives, and the faculty, staff, and administrators from the higher education systems: the California Community Colleges, the California State University, and the University of California.
I am so proud to have California Democrats’ endorsement to be your next Insurance Commissioner.
If I didn’t tell you personally this weekend in San Diego, your support means the world to me.
This is BIG. But our work is just starting. In the months ahead I will be working hard to win California’s votes — and I want you with me, knocking on doors and talking to voters.
The results at our convention provide us with great momentum for a victory in June and November. Thanks for all you are doing to make California a Big Blue Beacon of Hope!
I am honored to be the top vote getter in the hotly contested statewide races at the California Democratic Party Convention. Not only did the California Democratic Party grassroots deny the appointed Attorney General the Democratic Party endorsement, but the grassroots did so by a wide margin.
I am very honored to have received the support of 56% of the voting delegates. My opponent received only 42% of the vote. A tremendous 14 point lead.
Thanks to all the delegates who voted for me and who campaigned for me. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me or our volunteers during the months preceding the convention. I am also very grateful to our tremendous volunteers who have worked so hard with such enthusiasm here in San Diego and throughout the campaign. They showed the power of grassroots campaigning; their and your energy and engagement represents our Democratic Party at its best.
The support of such a large majority of Democrats across the state is confirmation that California Democrats want an Attorney General who will fight Trump’s regressive and racist policies while at the same time advancing a progressive agenda here in California.
I am very excited about the weeks and months ahead, as we build on this success to victory in the primary and general elections. We could not have accomplished this without you.
Thank you!
