This has been another productive week for the CDP. See below for a recap of the week’s activities.

Executive Board Recap
This past weekend was the first Executive Board Meeting of the new term, and it was a productive and informative weekend for everyone.

We are excited to share with you some noteworthy ‘firsts’ that happened this weekend:

  • We asked Executive Board and Standing Committee members to help us beta test two mobile apps
  • livestreamed Executive Board General Session for the first time (Saturday General Session / Sunday General Session)
  • Released a preliminary survey to assess viable childcare options for Executive Board meetings and convention
  • Distributed commemorative posters for Women’s Equality Day and a well-received handout on the Congressional races

The early feedback has been enormously helpful. Executive Board members had some great suggestions for fine-tuning the apps, more than 3,000 people have viewed some portion of the Executive Board meeting on Facebook, and the potential for childcare at future Party meetings was enthusiastically received by parents throughout the weekend.

We’re still collecting surveys for childcare needs… click here to give us your feedback.

The Saturday portion of the Executive Board meeting fell on Women’s Equality Day, and CDP commemorated the 97th Anniversary of women’s suffrage by releasing a powerful video of some of the Grassroots Democratic Women essential to our Party.

Executive Board members got to meet some of the hardworking staff of the California Democratic Party (and we swear, we were all VERY excited about appearing in it…).

And Senator Josh Newman spoke about serving in the Army, serving in the State Senate, and why the people of California deserve better than the failed policies and politics of the Republican Party.

Sunday’s General Session was devoted to business, and the members of the Executive Board voted to approve reports from the Rules Committee, Resolutions Committee and Legislation Committee.

Additionally, the Platform Committee held its first hearing on the 2017/18 Platform – see below for information on upcoming hearings.

Happy Labor Day to one hardworking mom in particular!
This weekend, as we celebrate Labor Day, and the Labor Movement that built the Middle Class, we wanted to give special recognition to CDP Labor Caucus officer Astrid Zuniga, who was recently honored on the floor of the California State Senate by Senator Cathleen Galgiani.

Astrid is Executive Vice President of United Domestic Workers AFSCME Local 3930. She provides in-home care for her son and stepfather. She was recognized on the Senate floor for her work with Sen. Cathleen Galgiani to proclaim September as Silver Alert Community Education Month, with the aim of ensuring safer interactions between law enforcement and people with disabilities. Congratulations, Astrid, and thank you for championing such a crucial issue.

Upcoming Platform Hearing
Save the date! The Northern California Platform Committee Hearing is coming up soon – don’t miss your opportunity to shape our Party’s statement of values as we head into the 2018 election cycle.

In Case You Missed It
This week marked the 54th Anniversary of the March on Washington For Jobs & Freedom. Your CDP Leadership Team offered their thoughts on the anniversary, and on the 10 Demands of the Marchers – many of which are still relevant today.
