Weekly Update – March 16, 2018

It’s been another productive week at the CDP. See below for a recap of this week’s activities.

March 14 Student Walkouts

On Tuesday, tens of thousands of California students participated in the nationwide student walkouts commemorating the one month anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Students from California participated in massive numbers. Every major media outlet in the state featured stories and photos of students walking out of their schools, many running live video from helicopters and from protests. Students were joined in solidarity by Democratic activists, Party officials and elected officials at virtually every event. CDP Vice Chair Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker joined Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Sacramento City Unified School District Trustee Jay Hansen at the walkout at C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento.

Your CDP team doesn’t mind confessing that watching some of the protests brought tears to our eyes. These students are the finest examples possible of change makers: thoughtful, passionate and righteous. And they are truly showing the Country what real leadership looks like.

As Chair Bauman has said time and again to the members of CYD, “Young Voters are not the future of the Democratic Party. Young Voters ARE the Democratic Party.” And we must help them succeed.

Black Women’s Democratic Club
Launch Party

Next Thursday, 3/22/18, the Black Women’s Democratic Club will be hosting a launch party in Los Angeles.

The Black Women’s Democratic Club is a new statewide club to organize and expand the current political representation and participation of Black women as voters, candidates and elected/appointed officials.

Now more than ever, when it comes to politics and policies that impact our communities, it is critical to have a voice AND also a seat at the table. BWDC supports progressive candidates and political strategies that will positively impact the lives of Black women and their families.

RSVP to the launch party here. Get your ticket today and bring a friend!

Fresno? More like FresYES!

CDP Chair Eric C. Bauman was delighted to keynote the annual Fresno County Democratic Women’s Club dinner this past Friday. If you’ve never been to this event before, you have to check it out sometime. It’s routinely one of the largest Democratic Party events in the Central Valley, and it’s always a great celebration of the folks who work so hard for our Party in such a crucial area of the state.

Congratulations Fresno County Democratic Women’s Club for another spectacular event!

And as always, if you’d like to invite Chair Bauman or one of the statewide officers to attend your event, your CDP Team is more than happy to facilitate your request. For Chair Bauman, please e-mail William Floyd. For Vice Chair Gallardo-Rooker, Vice Chair Larimore-Hall, Secretary Bach or Controller Weitzman, please e-mail Tim Valencia.

Trump in California

Trump came to California this week, and we made it absolutely clear that our Resistance to his hateful, divisive and corrupt regime is only getting stronger.

From the moment we learned about the trip, our CDP Organizers in SoCal were working to help get the word out about the constellation of protests that greeted Trump wherever he went.

Thousands of people took part in various events on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The CDP greeted Trump with a list of helpful tips for him to navigate our state, including:

  • DON’T PRAISE NAZIS
  • Treat Women Like Human Beings
  • Do Not Come For Maxine Waters Unless She Sends For You

Thank you to the thousands of people who turned out to protest Trump’s visit, and the thousands and thousands more who spoke out on social media. We made it clear that Trump’s brand of division, corruption and bigotry is not welcome in California.

Chair Bauman on C-SPAN’s
Washington Journal

In case you missed it (and we wouldn’t blame you, since it was on at 6:30 am) CDP Chair Eric C. Bauman appeared on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal as part of their ’50 State Capitols Tour’. Chair Bauman discussed the political climate in our state, key California races in 2018, healthcare policy and more. Check out the video below!
