Clean water is a human right. Period.
That’s why today — on World Water Day — we must unite in the common cause of tackling the water crisis gripping our world.
Billions of people around the world are still living without safe water — their households, schools, workplaces, farms, and factories are struggling to survive and thrive. And before anyone makes the mistake of thinking this is an issue only relevant to the developing world, remember Flint and dozens of other communities across America. In America, our water crisis often impacts poor communities and people of color first, communities who are often overlooked as they try to access and manage the safe water they need.
That’s why, to me, climate change isn’t one issue — it’s an umbrella under which so many other important issues live, including justice. And it’s why I’m running for president. I want to make sure that every community, and every family, can live safely in this country for years to come — because what kind of country are we if we can’t even give our citizens access to safe, clean water?
Add your name next to mine to pledge to fight the water crisis by fighting climate change today.
It’s undeniable that the first way we feel the effects of climate change is through our water — drought-stricken communities in California can tell you that as easily as flooded communities in Texas. The availability and access to water is becoming less predictable, and floods and droughts are threatening to destroy water points and contaminate water sources.
With the existing climate change scenario, by 2030, water scarcity in some arid and semi-arid places will displace as many as 700 million people. But this isn’t just a “future” problem. Right now — right here at home — communities like Flint don’t have access to clean water. And Donald Trump is doing nothing to help them.
Americans deserve clean water — and the world deserves a leader who can commit to fight for that at home and abroad. The only way we can ensure that is by committing to the fight against climate change.
We can do better if we do it together. Join me in honoring World Water Day by committing to fight the water crisis and climate change today.
Very truly yours,
Jay
