After spending the Easter recess in the district, I’m back in Washington this week working for you to promote Valley interests. Here are some of the highlights for the week of April 29th:
Climate Action Now
This week, the House passed H.R.9 – the Climate Action Now Act. As a cosponsor, I felt it was important to vote in support of this legislation in both the Foreign Affairs Committee and on the floor of the House. It renews our commitments to the Paris Agreement and outlines a plan to cut emissions by 26-28% below 2005 levels by 2025. Climate change is a problem that we cannot afford to delay. We need to continue to take action. This act reaffirms our nation’s leadership in countering this global threat.
Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee Hearing
On Tuesday, I chaired my first subcommittee hearing on the state of the dairy economy in the United States. Five key witnesses gave important insights on ways we can address the challenges facing the American dairy farmers. It is one of my highest priorities to advocate for Valley agriculture. Watch my opening statement:
Madera High School Madtown Robotics Parade:
Saturday, I had the pleasure of congratulating our very own Madera High School’s Madtown Robotics team at a parade and celebration in the heart of my district. This 15-member team of bright students triumphed over 400 other teams to take home the World Championship trophy! I couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishment. Go Coyotes!
On my return to D.C., I had the opportunity to recognize them on the floor of the House of Representatives. Watch my speech:
Holocaust Days of Remembrance
This week, as we observe the Holocaust Days of Remembrance, it’s important to pause and reflect on this horrendous act against humankind. I spoke on this issue on the House floor earlier this year. Here’s a clip about the importance of reflecting on the past:
