Last night, more than 300 local Democrats gathered to recognize community leaders Tony Canales (labor leader with the Carpenters union), Mike Rhodes (founder of the Community Alliance newspaper) and Barbara Thomas (former member of the Board of Education). Our keynote speaker was Tom Steyer; check out his comments here.

Steyer is a true friend to the Central Valley and a strong advocate for the resolution of the many issues distinct to our community.

We also recognized some of our Democratic leaders including Cynthia Sterling for the Les Kimber Lifetime Achievement Award, Michael D. Evans as Democrat of the Year and Assembly Member Joaquin Arambula as our Rising Star. Louie Campos received an award as the CDP Region 8 Volunteer of the Year.

Many thanks to the team that worked tirelessly over the past six months to make the event a success. The core members of the committee were Jim Dockery, Nancy Griesser, Bob & Joyce Jones, Ellie Garabedian, Esperanza Avalos, Tom Hernandez, Jeni Kren, David Rowell, Jeff Rosendale and Doug & Estella Kessler, and many others stepped up to assist at the event itself.

Special thanks to Howard Watkins for photographing the event (the photos should be available at http://www.watkinsphotoarchive.com/album/2017.html later today), Jeff Rosendale for putting together the photo/video presentation shown at the event, Mary Beth Carter for designing all of the marketing materials for the fund-raiser and Jeni Kren for putting together the event program.

And a huge thanks to our sponsors and everyone who attended. We greatly appreciate your support, and we intend to leverage our funding to elect Democrats in 2018.

Thanks!
