Today I had the distinct pleasure of attending the remarkable services of both the West Angeles Church and First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles.

It was an honor to join thousands of members of the community and to meet Bishop Clement W. Fugh, President of the National Council of AME Bishops, First AME Pastor Charles Blake II, and so many other leaders.

Thank you, West Angeles and First AME, for allowing me to be a guest today and to join you in prayer and worship.

This Black History Month, we must remember, and deeply understand, that the history, struggles, perseverance and achievements of Black Americans underpin the history and narrative of this nation. We must continue to celebrate their contributions to our culture and society – not just this month but year-round.

As the Trump Administration continues to assault our California values, we must unite and protect our diversity and rich culture. We cannot stay silent and allow our communities to be torn apart by hate and injustice.

Please join me in this fight.

Sincerely,

Eleni
