If you haven’t heard, news just broke that former Rep. David Valadao has officially filed to run against me. Soon, we’ll share all the reasons why our community rejected David Valadao in 2018, but for now here’s what you need to know:
Washington Republicans have been urging Valadao to run against me for months. They promised him the red carpet treatment in terms of special interest money and establishment support. Even Vice President Mike Pence himself was sent to our district for a fundraising swing.
The first few days after Valadao’s launch will likely be his most lucrative. It’s an important moment for us to show that our grassroots team is stronger than the special interests lined up behind him.
There’s no doubt that this will be one of the toughest races in the country. We were out-spent and written off as long shots when we beat Valadao last time, and we expect to have the same underdog status in 2020.
But this has never been about how much money we’ve been able to raise. It’s about how many are standing up and chipping in to say they support our campaign. Each donation sends a message that the people — not the special interests — hold the power in Washington.
All my very best,
