It was deeply upsetting yesterday to watch Trump reverse environmental protections designed to combat climate change and pollution.
Our planet is facing an unprecedented crisis. One we cannot ignore. While the president puts corporate special interests ahead of our children’s future, we have to intensify the movement to save our planet—and we have to do it NOW.
Look, I am not going to pretend that this fight will be easy. The important ones never are.
The protections Trump reversed come with a real human cost. By establishing reasonable and achievable limits on the nation’s largest source of carbon pollution—power plants—we would have prevented 3,600 premature deaths per year.
That progress is now lost. Those lives are now in jeopardy. And it will only get worse as Trump seeks to gut EPA programs that address climate change, pollution, and more.
There is no if about it: we must fight to not just preserve the progress made on reversing climate change, but to take bold action to improve our economy, our air quality, and our planet.
That’s what we’ve done here in California. And as goes California, so goes the nation.
Thanks for everything,
Kamala Harris
U.S. Senator, California
