State Senator Ricardo Lara’s candidacy is historic.
Not only would Ricardo be the first openly gay California State Insurance Commissioner, but he would be the first openly gay statewide elected officeholder in California history.
Throughout his time in the State Legislature, Ricardo has been a fierce, loyal and dedicated leader within and on behalf of the LGBTQ community, working to tear down barriers and ensure equality for all.
In addition, he has been a trailblazer on a wide variety of critical issues, working to create a more inclusive society by ensuring that all Californians have access to affordable, high quality healthcare, and fighting for healthcare coverage for some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
