Late Friday night, Donald Trump doubled down on his efforts to ban transgender individuals from serving in our military.
Such bigotry has no place in our state and it certainly should have no place in our nation. In fact, it’s a violation of our Constitution.
That’s why I fought Trump’s transgender service member ban in court earlier this year. Many courts have agreed that Trump’s initial action was unlawful — months ago we secured an injunction that effectively ended the ban!
But now Trump is trying again with a new policy that sounds like the old. Michael, these are Californians who must not be discriminated against or marginalized.
As your Attorney General, I’m ready to continue fighting vigorously to protect the rights of transgender individuals alongside active-duty transgender service members, Equality California, and others in court. I told the Associated Press:
“California will take every measure available to prevent President Trump’s discriminatory action that harms or marginalizes transgender service members — or any other transgender Americans who wish to courageously defend our nation.” Read more here.
