If you are available, please consider coming out to City Hall tomorrow to support South Fresno residents at a hearing scheduled for 4:30 PM on a proposed massive industrial warehouse project that the city is proposing to approve across the street from homes and within 1/2 mile of Orange Center Elementary School, the Flamingo Mobile Home Park, and Daleville, a disadvantaged unincorporated community.

The City has conducted virtually no analysis of the environmental impacts of this project. It has not completed a water assessment required by law, has no specific mitigation to reduce PM 2.5 emissions from the estimated 6,200 truck and car trips the project is estimated to generate and which will pass in front of homes, has not looked at resulting pedestrian safety hazards for kids at Orange Center or residents, among many other serious impacts.

In the 2014 General Plan, the City committed to conduct a comprehensive assessment of conflicting industrial zoning and land use next to neighborhoods and develop appropriate mitigation- like rezoning, buffers, greening and emission reduction strategies. The City has not moved forward with the assessment, which, if done properly, would help avoid tail-end issues like this.

Leadership Counsel is representing a group of residents in the area called South Central Neighbors United. The group does not want the project next to their homes but asks that if it does go forward, the city at least comply with state environmental laws and perform required analyses and adopt mitigation.  The residents are clear that this is not about jobs v. health but about smart planning and equal representation to achieve good quality jobs and health.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Please feel free to share this invitation with others who may be interested in coming.

Thanks,

Ashley
