OAKLAND, Calif. (May 19, 2017): Momentum continues to swell for Kimberly Ellis, who proudly announces the endorsement of California’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson. Joining Delaine Eastin in support of Ellis, Torlakson is the second Superintendent of Public Instruction and the third constitutional officer in as many days to weigh in for Ellis.
“I’m pleased to announce my support for Kimberly Ellis for Chair of our California Democratic Party. She is a champion for public education. Public education is under attack,” said Torlakson. “That’s why it is vital for the California Democratic Party to prioritize building a bench of public education champions and then to strongly support their endorsed candidates at the ballot box.”
“As evidenced by the 9.53% turnout in Tuesday’s Los Angeles Unified School District election, we have work to do to engage California’s electorate. It is critical to elect a Party Chair who can inspire voters to participate and make public education in California a priority again. Kimberly Ellis is that Chair. Public education in California is under assault, and we need a state Party Chair who will be nimble enough to recruit and elect Democrats at all levels of government who stands with the children and for their education. We need a warrior for California’s future who will build a strong bench,” said Eastin. “I proudly endorse Kimberly Ellis for Chair. I know she has the best interest of students and teachers; she will not let us down.”
“As the mother of kids who attend public schools, having the support of two of California’s biggest champions for strong, full-funded public education is thrilling. I am honored to have the support of these two distinguished and highly regarded public servants” said Kimberly Ellis.
