Statement of California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton on House Republicans Passing “Trumpcare”

Today Republicans in Congress voted to strip 24 million people of one of their most basic human rights: health care. They continue to choose giving corporate tax breaks over protecting the health and well-being of the people they represent. And they targeted our most vulnerable populations, those with pre-existing conditions, to pay even more by lumping them into high-risk pools, if they can even get health care at all.

These elected representatives of the people should know that their constituents are going to hold them accountable for standing with Donald Trump today. And they should understand that contrary to Trump’s belief, giving people the shaft does not qualify as medical treatment.
