Dear Fellow Democrat:

Cambridge Analytica stole the personal information of more than 50 million Americans through Facebook, and corporate America did exactly what we expected to protect consumers: NOTHING.

Recent revelations about Facebook are exactly why we need the California Consumer Privacy Act now more than ever. We can’t let corporate America dictate our rights as consumers. We simply cannot trust them with our data, because sharing it is their business model.

They know that. We know that. And so the corporate money is flooding into the campaign opposing the common sense protections already enjoyed by European citizens. Facebook, Google, Comcast, AT&T and Verizon have already dumped a million dollars into a committee to try and stop us in our tracks and keep California behind the curve.

Our campaign is still gathering signatures for this crucial initiative, and we expect to qualify for the November ballot. But we need YOUR ENERGY AND COMMITMENT to make sure it becomes law. You may have seen the California Consumer Privacy booth at the California Democratic Party Convention in San Diego, where volunteers talked to voters, answered questions and garnered support from across the state. Opponents also showed up to the Convention to hand out glossy flyers sponsored by the California Chamber of Commerce and big corporations.

Please join me and the thousands of California Democrats who support the California Consumer Privacy Act by signing up here.

The California Consumer Privacy Act will:

  1. Give Californians the right to know what information big businesses are collecting about us & our families;
  2. Give us the power to decide if we want companies to STOP selling our personal information; and;
  3. Hold companies accountable for data breaches and breaking the law.

Thank you for your support!

In Solidarity,

Daraka Larimore-Hall
