State Senator Ed Hernandez Wins Backing from Paramount Women’s Health Organization, Signifies Increasing Momentum in Statewide Contest
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Marking one of his most influential and impactful endorsements yet, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez earned the highly coveted support of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor.
Widely recognized as the nation’s premier women’s health care organization, support from Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California carries substantial weight with voters across California. Since his election to the State Legislature in 2006, Hernandez has authored several critical reproductive health bills and earned 100% on every PPAC scorecard.
In making public their endorsement, Crystal Strait, CEO/President of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, released the following statement:
“As a health care provider himself, Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by Planned Parenthood health centers. Dr. Hernandez has been a fierce advocate to protect Planned Parenthood funding and has worked to expand Medi-Cal eligibility.”
Strait added, “At this crucial time when access to women’s health care is under constant attack, we need bold, tough and experienced leadership in California. PPAC is honored to endorse candidates who not only support Planned Parenthood, but are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that millions of patients who rely on our services won’t be turned away.”
Senator Hernandez expressed his gratitude for the endorsement by remarking:
“Our nation is facing great division and uncertainty, particularly with the Trump Administration and its allies in Washington intent on stripping millions of vulnerable people of their ability to access necessary health care. As a health care provider, I strongly believe that we must guarantee safe and legal access to reproductive health services, including abortion, for all Californians. It’s why I have consistently voted in the State Legislature to protect abortion rights and I have authored legislation to ensure that reproductive rights are covered in private and public health plans. As California’s next Lieutenant Governor, I will continue to advocate for the protection and expansion of reproductive rights, access to health services, and comprehensive sexual education in our public schools. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.
