OAKLAND, Calif. (March 28, 2017): In the race for Chair of the California Democratic Party (CDP), support from the County Central Committees is indicative of momentum from voting party members. This week, Kimberly Ellis’ campaign proudly announced the first County Central Committee endorsement of the race: Madera County. Santa Cruz County’s Central Committee was quick to follow, giving Ellis strong endorsements from the heart of California.
“Too often, our smaller, rural counties are ignored by our leaders in Sacramento. Kimberly has demonstrated her commitment to being a voice for every single one of us, not for special interests,” explained Madera County Central Committee Chair Susan Rowe. “That’s why it’s so meaningful for us to be the first Central Committee to endorse in the race for CDP Chair, and to support progressive Kimberly Ellis.”
“Politics as usual doesn’t work for us anymore,” said Santa Cruz County Central Committee Chair Coco Raner-Walter. “Here in Santa Cruz County, we represent farmers who are hurting, activists who are frustrated and families that are trying to make it. Kimberly understands all of us. She’ll stand up for all of us. That’s why we’re so proud to stand with her.”
As Ellis has visited Democrats in every corner of California, she’s heard many of the same concerns and hopes for the future of the state party. “I’m ready to work with every Democrat in California to move us forward as a state and to ensure that every Californian shares in that progress,” Ellis said. “I’m grateful for the endorsements of the hardworking Democrats in Madera and Santa Cruz Counties.”
