With less than two weeks left in this midterm election season, California voters have a unique opportunity to significantly upgrade our representation in Washington D.C. from a placeholder to a progress-maker by electing CA State Senator Kevin de Leon #KDL to replace US Senator Dianne Feinstein #DiFi. PDA California endorsed KDL early in the primaries as did the California Democratic Party later this summer in what is now a runoff election between the two. The California Democratic Party voted overwhelmingly to endorse Kevin de Leon for the US Senate over incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein who is seeking her fifth full term in the Senate. De Leon garnered 65% of the vote among the party’s executive board members, Feinstein received 7% of the vote, and 28% voted “no endorsement.”

Our issues with DiFi cover a sizable array of disappointing public statements and votes on Capitol Hill including her support for the Iraq War, the repeal of Glass-Steagall, and referring to Medicare for All as a “government takeover” of Healthcare. Many of us also saw Senator Feinstein as disappointing in the recent attempt to block the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Here’s a great new video highlighting these problematic positions of hers.

KDL on the other hand, offers a refreshing array of positive positions including as the champion of immigration and environmental rights, as well as helping to usher through the CA State Senate our most recent effort at having our own Universal Healthcare here in California with #SB562 The #HealthyCA Act. His advocacy is creating waves not just among progressive political junkies but also among newcomers and especially ringing true with Millennials and communities of color.

Early voting either by mail or at established centers around each county statewide, is undoubtedly already capturing the mood of the electorate, and we will see soon enough if California voters will carpe diem and seize the moment to make a difference in Washington, D.C.
