I am excited to announce that the National Women’s Political Caucus California Board has endorsed me for State Treasurer! Mentoring and empowering women to increase their participation in the political process and standing for the issues that impact women and families is critical not only to achieving equality for women, but also to ensuring we create a better society for all Californians. I am honored to receive the endorsement of NWPC, and look forward to continuing to stand up for women throughout our state.

I was proud to partner with Willpowered Woman and Every 9 Seconds in launching Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Oct‌ober 4. We hosted a Silent Witness displayto remember the victims who have lost their lives due to domestic violence. The display will be available for viewing through Oc‌tober at 45‌5 Gold‌en Ga‌te Ave‌nue, Sui‌te 1050‌0, Sa‌n F‌rancisco, CA.

I had a great conversation with members of SEIU Local 1000 at our Los Angeles Town Hall. Local 1000 members represent our state’s dedicated public servants; these hardworking and compassionate men and women contribute almost $6 billion to California’s economy each year, and Local 1000 ensures they have the opportunity to have a good life, live in sustainable communities, and enjoy the fruits of social, economic, and environmental justice.

In September, I toured the USS Iowa, which was originally commissioned in 1943 and earned 11 battle stars during its service in WWII and the Korean War. It was a fascinating and humbling tour, and I came away with an even deeper respect for the vital role our military service members play in keeping us safe.

I had a great time visiting the UC Merced Venture Lab, which supports entrepreneurship in the Central Valley. The lab doesn’t take an equity share and is free and open to the public. This is where I met Paul Curtis (pictured above), who has created building insulation that snaps together like Legos and uses materials that don’t burn easily, making it a safe and user friendly option. Supporting entrepreneurs like Paul and business incubators like the Venture Lab is key to California being competitive in the 21st century’s global economy.

Erasing the stigma surrounding Hepatitis B is essential to improving public health and the quality of life for our family, friends and neighbors. Thank you to the incredible advocates at San Francisco Hep B Free and Stanford University’s Asian Liver Center for all they do to educate the public about this disease and eradicate it once and for all.

Here I am riding in the City of El Cerrito’s centennial anniversary parade. I believe our local communities are the heart of our state, and El Cerrito is truly a wonderful, welcoming city. Congratulations to El Cerrito on 100 years, and here’s to many more!
