Here’s the truth: the Supreme Court has the power to create enormous change in our society. It is the institution that affirmed a woman’s right to make her own health decisions and ruled that marriage cannot be denied to anyone because of the person they love. It is also the same branch of government that gutted the Voting Rights Act and opened the door for big corporations to pollute our political system with secret, unaccountable money.
So you can imagine that I take the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court very seriously. Justice hangs in the balance on the court, and while he has an impressive paper record, Gorsuch’s rulings have repeatedly failed to achieve justice for all Americans.
For this reason, I am opposing his nomination — and I am asking supporters like you to join me in this fight. Can you take action today?
Neil Gorsuch has consistently favored corporations over the American people and should not be confirmed to the Supreme Court. I am signing this petition in opposition to his nomination and urging the Senate to reject him.
A perfect example of why we must oppose Gorsuch’s nomination is the story of Alphonse Maddin, a trucker who got stuck on the road in sub-zero temperatures and abandoned his cargo to seek help. He was fired because he left his truck and when he sued the company, only one judge sided with his employer — Judge Neil Gorsuch.
Imagine being someone who believes corporations should have the right to fire an employee for trying to save their life?
In the case of the college professor Grace Hwang, who was diagnosed with cancer, Gorsuch ruled that her employer had the right to refuse leave even though her doctor told her to rest. “His decision was heartless,” said Grace’s parents earlier this month.
These two cases are not ones we cherry-picked to make a partisan point.
Gorsuch’s record shows he is willing to favor corporations over the American people. From imposing religious views on employees to outright hostility toward federal agencies, he has a history of rulings that directly hurt working families, consumers, women, and more.
In short: Gorsuch has valued narrow legalisms over real lives. The just thing for us to do is prevent his nomination to the Supreme Court. If you agree, please add your name to our petition today.
