NATIONAL LGBTQ POWERHOUSE BACKS RICARDO LARA FOR IC
LGBTQ Victory Fund Endorses State Senator Ricardo Lara’s Historical Bid to Become California’s First Openly Gay Statewide Official

LONG BEACH, CA– Cementing his place as the true progressive in the race for California State Insurance Commissioner, today LGBTQ Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed State Senator Ricardo Lara. LGBTQ Victory Fund works to change the face and voice of America’s politics and achieve equality for LGBTQ Americans by increasing the number of openly LGBTQ elected officials at all levels of government.

In announcing their endorsement, Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund, released the following statement:

“Ricardo Lara has staked his career on fairness, equality and a progressive vision for California. He’s been a fearless fighter for working people, immigrants, seniors, young people, and disadvantaged communities when it mattered most. That includes enhancing environmental protections, helping pass equal pay for equal work and a statewide $15 minimum wage, authoring California’s single-payer healthcare bill SB 562 and safeguarding funding for reproductive health care.”

Parker continued, “In addition to his record of fighting for social and economic justice, Ricardo has been a trailblazer for the LGBTQ community, authoring the Transgender Work Opportunity Act, the Dignity not Detention bill to protect LGBTQ immigrants and refugees, and countless pieces of legislation aimed at eliminating discrimination. Ricardo’s candidacy is unique because if elected as State Insurance Commissioner, he will be the first openly gay person ever elected to statewide office in California’s history. LGBTQ Victory Fund is proud to endorse Ricardo Lara and we look forward to working with him to create a more inclusive society for all.”
