With Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey to thwart an investigation of his ties with Russia, these attempts at a cover-up are an abuse of power of the worst kind. In fact, our Constitution says that these kinds of high crimes and misdemeanors should result in impeachment.

Though Trump’s not much a student of history, if we’ve learned anything from Richard Nixon’s “Satur‌day Night Massacre,” it’s that the cover-up is as relevant as the offense. Trump should know that being president of the United States is not a reality show where saying “You’re Fired” is the punchline. In fact, Trump will likely find that these words go down in infamy as some of the worst he’s ever uttered.
