I am proud to announce that Equality California has endorsed me for State Treasurer! EQCA is our state’s leading LGBTQ advocacy organization, standing up for the rights of the LGBTQ community. EQCA Executive Director Rick Zbur said:
Equality California is proud to support Fiona Ma for State Treasurer. Fiona has been a dedicated and early champion for the rights of the LGBTQ community, performing some of the first same-sex marriages in California back in 2004. She will continue to be a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ community and will carry on the fight for equal rights for all Californians, with courage and conviction. EQCA is proud to endorse Fiona Ma, the clear choice for State Treasurer.”
I’m proud to have stood with our LGBTQ friends and family my entire life. We have come a long way but more needs to be done, and I will continue standing up for equal rights and improved protections for the LGBTQ community as State Treasurer.
I was honored to be a guest of the Fresno Rotary and speak before some of our state’s finest Rotarians! The hard work and commitment to community exhibited by this amazing group is truly remarkable, and I am looking forward to being back soon to discuss the issues important to both the Central Valley and our entire state.
Congratulations to the 45 apprentice graduates in the 2016-17 class of the Southern California Operating and Maintenance Engineers Apprenticeship and Training Trust! These apprenticeship programs teach valuable technical skills to California’s hardworking men and women, while providing them with the opportunity to work, train, and be successful. I am honored to have joined these dedicated workers in celebrating their special night!
It was wonderful visiting Temecula and learning about this great city’s tremendous contributions to California’s heritage of arts, culture, food, and drink. At the heart of Temecula’s story is a vibrant community of small businesses that give the city its strong reputation. As State Treasurer, I will continue standing up for our small businesses and ensuring they have what they need to be successful in today’s economy.
A small staff and strong group of volunteers are doing great work at Shalom Bayit, the Bay Area’s center for domestic violence prevention and response within the Jewish community. Through counseling and direct support to battered women and their children, community education, and dating violence prevention programs, Shalom Bayit promotes peaceful homes and families, teaches skills for healthy relationships, working to free the Jewish community from violence and abuse. I am proud to stand with Shalom Bayit and others in ensuring we stand up to domestic violence and abuse.
Jason and I had a great time at the Great Dickens Fair at the Cow Palace in San Francisco! The Great Dickens Fair is a treasured Bay Area tradition since the 1970s, and offers a one-of-a-kind holiday adventure that immerses attendees into the culture, literature, and history of Victorian London.
Thank you to Derrick, Steve, George, Che, and Matt of the Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 342 for taking time to chat with me about how we can train the next generation of plumbers and steamfitters. Local 342’s highly skilled craftsmen and craftswomen build and service everything from sanitary plumbing in homes, to ultrapure process piping systems in semiconductor and biotech plants, with the highest standard of excellence.
