I am excited to announce that the California Teachers Association, which represents 325,000 educators in California’s public schools and colleges, has endorsed me for State Treasurer! CTA’s support was especially touching for me because of an amazing woman and educator I have looked up to my entire life: my mom.
That’s us the moment she heard the news that I’d earned CTA’s support. Needless to say, as a former substitute teacher and high school art teacher of 19 years, she was ecstatic! I’m honored to have CTA’s endorsement because they represent educators like my mom who selflessly devote their lives to preparing the next generation of Californians to be competitive and successful in today’s global economy

I’m also excited to announce that I’ve been endorsed by SEIU California! SEIU CA represents over 700,000 Californians, including social workers, nurses, classroom aides, security officers, college professors, home care workers, janitors, and more. They fight every day to for the rights of working men and women throughout California, and I’m honored to have their strong support.
With our state reeling from the intense wildfires last month, the Ma Squad was proud to support Senator Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco) and his team at the Redwood Empire Food Bank as they collected and distributed food and essential items to survivors of the North Bay fire. There was a line of cars waiting to pick up these items, and we were proud to be a part of this important humanitarian effort.
The California Conservation Corps is an integral part of fighting and containing fires in our state. My husband Jason Hodge (pictured above, second from left), is a Ventura County Firefighter and logistics specialist, and loves working with the youth at CCC. It was a privilege emceeing the 46th Annual Equity for All Dinner with San Francisco City and County Supervisor Malia Cohen. Here we are presenting the Harold T. Yee Lifetime Achievement Award to the Asian American Architects and Engineers.
Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 761 has a very impressive training center in Van Nuys! I had the opportunity to see a class review storm water capture rules and work with the tanks that store water, and meet welders in action. Here I am with superstar welder Sergio’s mask. What an honor visiting the USS Hornet during San Francisco’s fleet week. The USS Hornet has a rich and storied history defending our nation, and the exhibits here portray the sacrifices and determination our men and women in uniform have displayed in protecting the United States. Here I am sitting in the same seats where Top Gun pilots would have received their lessons and briefings!
I was honored to lend my support to an amazing program, Cecelia’s Closet and Food Pantry. Cecelia’s Closet collects clothes for people in need throughout the year and at this event, helped ensure over 500 families got free clothes, haircuts and flu shots!
