Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis Endorses Jim Costa for Re-election to Congress
First woman to be elected Lieutenant Governor praises Costa’s integrity and dedication to the Valley
Today, Congressman Jim Costa’s campaign announced that California’s Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis has endorsed Congressman Costa for re-election to the United States Congress.
Lt. Gov. Kounalakis said: “Jim Costa has represented the Central Valley in the U.S. Congress with integrity and dedication. He elevates and amplifies the many voices of the Central Valley, and I know that he will continue fighting for issues important to all Californians. I am proud to endorse him for re-election.”
Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis is the 50th lieutenant governor of California and the first woman elected to the office. She previously served in the administration of President Barack Obama as the United States Ambassador to Hungary from 2010 to 2013. She served four times as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and as an at-large member of the California State Democratic Central Committee.

We share a commitment to ensuring all of our state’s regions have a voice in our political system, and that we continue to champion causes to uplift California’s working families, students and marginalized communities. Congressman Costa has received strong, early support from local and statewide Democratic champions, including California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, US Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, US Congressman Adam Schiff and others.

Jim Costa represents California’s 16th Congressional District, which includes portions of Fresno, Madera and Merced Counties. He was re-elected to Congress in November 2018 by a decisive 15% margin over his opponent. During his service in Congress, Costa has delivered over $300 million for veterans’ services, expanded access to higher education, and improved access to healthcare.
