We are excited to announce the support of Latina leaders across California, who have endorsed Rusty Hicks campaign for CDP Chair. With fifteen days until the state party convention, grassroots activists, new generations of “Blue Wave” Democrats and longtime civic leaders are lined up behind Rusty, citing his track record of victories for working families, women and immigrants, and winning Democratic seats in historically Republican districts.
Latina elected and civic leaders who have endorsed Rusty include:
  • Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA 40)
  • Congresswoman Grace Napolitano(CA 32)
  • Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (CA 38)
  • Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA 35)
  • Senator Maria Elena Durazo (SD 24)
  • Assemblywoman Luz Rivas(AD 39)
  • Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo (AD 51)
  • Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (AD 4)
  • Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (AD 65)
  • Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (AD 80)
  • LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis
  • Civil Rights Leader Dolores Huerta
“Anyone who’s worked with Rusty knows that he’s a fearless advocate who doesn’t hesitate to take on the status quo,” said Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo. “With 2020 in our sights, Democrats are ready to fight against the inequality, racism, and attacks on our environment that are sadly today’s status quo in national politics.”
“I’m supporting Rusty because he shares my belief that where you start—your zip code, your family’s income level, your country of origin, your gender identity—should never limit where you can end up, said Assemblywoman Luz Rivas. “The fight for fair wages and safe work places is really about a fight for equity, which is the heart of the Democratic party.”
“I’ve always said that a leader is a person who does the work. A leader is a person who puts in the time, commitment and work to make change,” said UFW Co-Founder Dolores Huerta. “Rusty has experience bringing people together – from different unions, different backgrounds and different points of view. Rusty does the work, he unites people and he’s my choice to lead the California Democratic Party.”
Rusty followed now-State Senator Maria Elena Durazo at the Federation four years ago and earned a winning track record for door-to-door field campaigns that successfully mobilized immigrants and working people. Rusty has brought twice as many women into leadership roles at the L.A. Fed, increased leadership among people of color by 60%, and increased overall Fed membership by 23%. He helped win the best new wage enforcement law in California and led the first “Fight for $15” campaign for immigrant workers and workers of color who don’t enjoy union representation. Rusty fought for landmark protections for hotel workers against sexual harassment. He fought Trump’s Janus Court decision, re-energized and re-empowered workers by training more than 300 organizers, and has helped put unemployed people to work building housing that ordinary people can afford.
Please join these incredible women in supporting the candidate with a track record of winning tough campaigns, Rusty Hicks.
