The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.
Yesterday our nation awoke again to the news of another horrific mass shooting. I know all of our thoughts are with the victims of this senseless tragedy and their families. I want to thank our first responders for acting quickly and bravely, as well as the medical professionals who are working so hard to treat the hundreds of injured.
This brutal act of violence is the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history and was made possible because we, as a nation, have failed to act every time events like these occur. Here in California, we have passed common-sense laws that ban military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines. It is well past the time to demand our leaders at the national level to do the same.
The road to recovery for the survivors, their families, and the entire Las Vegas community will be long and arduous, and those who lost loved ones have had their lives irrevocably changed forever. We should honor the memories of those lost, and the struggles of those who survive, by making certain something like this can never happen again.
Everyone should take the time to hold our loved ones a little tighter, to appreciate the moments we have with family and friends, and to remember that when we take action together, we can make real change in our community, our state, and our nation.
